Hi everyone! I just thought I'd start the new State forums off with an introduction thread. Please feel free to reply to this thread if you wish. Otherwise, feel free to start a new topic if you wish to discuss other topics that are local or state related. Enjoy!
Isabel,
Hello again. Yes, there is a public transportation system in San Antonio. You should be care as to where you decide to live with the kids so young. The schools are pretty good there but like any large city here, there are schools that have minimal tax support and funding. Depends on the student population. You should be able to find out that info on the internet. SA is so huge that they have about 10+ school districts in that area....
here is the site that lists them all and links to the specific ones...

I wouldn't mind locating some specific information for you if you need something specific. Just let me know.
SA at least has a good highway system so the rush hour problems are not as bad as they are in other big cities. There is a huge hispanic population there as well. Many do not speak English. There have a medical school there - the San Antonio branch of the University of Texas.
Until next time....PC

We have just started the bar-code-medication delivery system.
Is anyone else using this yet? Love to hear what you think about
this new system.
We are fixin' to switch over to this EMAR and barcode stuff too...haven't had the inservice yet though.....let me know what you think about it!! Sounds like more time consuming stuff for us to do unfortunately....
Hi. I'm currently living in Baltimore and previously lived in San Antonio for 11 years off of Vance Jackson Rd. near Wurzbach.
I graduated from San Antonio College program of nursing. There are times I miss the culture there! Worked at Methodist Hospital and Villa Rosa as well. Looking forward to interacting with folks still inn Texas.
Hi, I have worked in a few HCA (Columbia) hospitals with emar. It is time consuming and full of BUGS. It isnt really worth it. You have to haul this giant machine to the bedside and scan med and pt's armband. Its an aweful system. There has to be some other way. Let me know what others are doing? Has anyone used Emar in a facility other than HCA??? thanks
I work at a Columbia HCA hospital in Austin. We (thankfully) don't have that there (yet?). The accudose is bad enough. It's buggy also. Concept is good. Keeps from having to count narcs constantly and so on but there are times you can't get to the meds that you know are in there because they won't show up on any menus. Pharmacy doesn't have a clue (do they ever?).

Oh no!! Well, I should expect this...everything HCA has us doing is to benefit the corporation and they have little regard for how time consuming their latest 'system' is for the staff......

We finally complained about the Accudose enough that we now have a 24 hr pharmacist...and we are calling him constantly to fix the bugs that slow us down in our med administration.
I'm always in trouble for overriding...but I tell them I cannot wait for their slow system...I need to give this Versed NOW and can't wait for an hour for you to input it....

Thanks PC,
Yes I will have to take the exams and I will sure look up that site.
I want to know about good schools in this area and the transportation system as I won't be able to get the Social Security Card and driving license. I will also perhaps have to take a house on rent which I think I would take near a good school but then again I don't know how far my work place would be as I will be starting job as well, so there is lots of work to be done and that is the reason that I have started my home work from now though I won't be coming before Jan 2004 but all the information that I can get is appreciated.
I am a Christian Catholic and have three kids, ages 12, 11 and 5. When does the fiscal year start for school and at what age does a child starts? My younger one is in Kinder garden and he starts school next year. My hubby is also working in the hospital and is a Senior Service Coordinator (Mainly handling the admin and coordinating care of Private Patients and staff) well don't what would be his starting job at the moment but anyway we are all ready to jump and discover our new life.
Thanks and appreciate your help.
