  1. Where were u 9/11/01?

I had just gotten back from Walmart & turned on the TV while I was putting away the things I had purchased. I saw the 1st plane hit & then the 2nd and just stared at the TV in disbelief. It seemed so unreal. I had just gotten back from NYC 6...
  2. info re:All about Staffing Agency, Orlando, fla.

I am a former HCA employee & if you want to work in the HCA system you WILL need to go thru them to work but I was not happy either. I believe I made $10 per hour for the orientation time. AAS ---is ---owned by the HCA system.
  3. Home care agency work

Unfortunately I don't have any specifics regarding money or agencies. When I did home care the nurses needed at least 1 year Med-Surg type experience. Home care was my most "favorite" job. I did infusion and the hours were extremely long but you only...
  4. Opinions about Hospitals in Texas

I live in the Houston area & although it definately isn't as pretty as the other areas, the Medical Center has several opportunities. There are a lot of different hospitals & areas to work in. Please do not flame me for this... but you can ga...
  5. Extremely RARE for me to leave on time. Usually 15 min- 45 min over. The reasons vary from a very crazy day, to having to give report to 4 different nurses,to crashing patients or relief coming in late. I would love to be one of those nurses who alwa...
  6. Doing away with agency nurses. Interesting article.

I am an agency nurse working at HCA hospitals. In the Houston area AAS is paying $37 or $ 38 per hour for their nurses. That is with or without a contract. This is in the critical care or tele area's. Atleast this is how I understand it.
  7. Nurses with Eczema?

Hi, I have had problems for years. The one area I have had to stay away from is the OR. It killed my hands. So far I have not had any infections. I have been a RN since 1987. I have a steroid cream I put on at night after working & it seems to he...
  8. The Real World of Nursing

Nursing is a hard but rewarding field. There are days I feel stressed to the max. And nursing school was very taxing. But when one patient or family member says " thank you" or " you really care", it makes all the difference in the world. Those are ...
  9. Introductions

Hi, I live in Pasadena. But work at a few hospitals as I am agency. I have not worked with the Emar system yet but several of the floors already are utilizing it.
  10. student doing a report please help me answer these question!!!

    1. Depends on the title: I believe LPN is 1 yr plus prereq"s. I have an ADN & when I went to school it was for 2 1/2 yrs, BSN is for 4 yrs. Advanced degrees are longer. 2. I am agency & I make $ 37.00 per hour in ICU/CCU/IMCU, no benefits. 3....
  11. specialties in nursing

I agree with Ainz that you should get atleast a year of Med -Surg experience. I have been an RN since 1987 & the best thing I feel I ever did was go to a Med Surg Tele unit. I wanted to be a " baby" nurse when I was in school & have never act...
  12. My Heart Is In My Throat...Literally

I haven't even read all the threads but I just want to add my opinion. I had several episodes of SVT over the years from age 14 on. No caffiene, no cardiac meds prescribed po or vagal manuvers(by myself or the MD) worked. At that time IV verapamil w...
  13. Able to work agency at a former facility?

The HCA facillity I left had a 6 month rule. It had been 1 yr prior to that. I did go back for 1 shift & found that "some things never change!"
  14. Well I did it! I quit my regular job to go to agency.

Good luck. It may take time for you to become "known" & you may get cancelled the first few days but when the staff knows you then it all falls into place. Also make friends with your agencies bookers. Let them know what you will & won't do ....
  15. 1ST Semester Nursing Student

Everyone has given you some very good advice. Take a deep breath. Nursing school was one of the hardest things I have done in my life but just take 1 day at a time. You will never read every page of your Med Surg books but try to hit the highlights. ...
