New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Hi Aelith,

What's your idea about Ramsay? What about their IRON? As I'm inactive now, will they allow me to enroll?

Just a bit confused with my situations:uhoh3:. Thanks for being patient w/ me.Appreciate your kindness:bowingpur.God bless.

Ramsay is okay as far as I know. Is IRON the one that was posted few pages back? If so, then I think I remember highlighting that it's for PR and Citizens only. If that applies to you then you can do that. :)

Did you try sending the boards an email?

Hi all,

I'm back. I would just like to ask: If I am going to do the Queensland CAS Part B in Australia, what visa should I apply for, the Business Short Stay (456) or a tourist visa (676).

Please clarify. I am a bit confused. Thanks!

Hello dear :)

To verify this, you would have to ask the CAS Provider. I think they will tell you which visa to apply for and I think it's 456? 676 can also be used but it depends on the provider.

Btw, both 456 and 676 can be issued as single entry or multiple entry. Its validity is 3 months per stay if I'm not mistaken. Also, both visas are "pre-qualifying" visas for 457 so don't worry. :)

Hi Aelith, I applied in NBV last May 2009, my IELTS then didn't qualify even with their old rule, cause I got a 6.5 in writing which they do require a 7 rating in the old rule.... NBV really processed my application without looking anything about IELTS because I didn't forward my TRF.

With the new NBV rules, I don't know if they do require IELTS result first in order to process their application...

Yes, you're right its a bit unfair, even if it favors me...anyway, almost just the same scenario as I can't still do my BP...my only advantage is I lessen my headache and can concentrate now with the review of IELTS...:typing

Thanks dear Aelith...:wink2:

Wow! Forgive my ignorance lol.. this is the first time I've encountered something like this ;)

I do feel bad for someone I know :S But at least she's there now anyway.. I think :lol2:

goodluck dear for your IELTS! I think you should take it asap because slots are not gonna be available for a long time ;) Good luck good luck!

As far as I am aware you need a local license for Australia. This thread gives excellent advice on the process you have to go through and I am sure you will find it worth the read

hi guys, missed you all! :D hehehe been busy these past few days (again, the joys of being a housewife hahaha) and our internet connection keeps on fouling up . probably because of the weather...

anyway, hi there frank_funk!

i'm not sure about you question especially the train in Australia part but almost all the people here on this thread are either applying to get a license by going thru the Queensland CAS route or going through a bridging program in other states like Victoria. So meaning there are a number of ways to get a license in OZ. You can do either but you need to pass the NLE first and wait for your certificate of registration which i think is issued a few months after one passes the NLE (local boards) right guys? (please correct me if i'm wrong hehehe). Certificate of registration is a requirement if you're gonna do BP or do the Queensland-CAS route. I also think that one can study in OZ then later on can be qualified as an RN but i'm really not that familiar with that route. so better back-read to get these infos

reading this entire thread will be very helpful. a lot of infos really... i'm sure after you're done reading it's as if you've read an entire manual on how to go to australia as an RN .

God bless us all!

ok thanks im starting to read hopefully i can follow you guys there!:wink2:

Hello frank and welcome to the thread :)

As far as I know, you'll be needing the local license because it is one of the requirements for your application - Initial Registration certificate + Verification of local license. If you want to go to Australia right away, you can study as this do not require the license. It will be an expensive option.

There are 2 types,: a 1 year course and a 2 year course which you can apply for. Both will lead to registration as a nurse in Australia. Tuition fee is from 15-24k AUD per year.

YES Chabeli, I have already a Letter of Eligibility from NBV...even without IELTS TRF, but the BP provifers require me to submit all 7 IELTS result before they accept me in BP....maybe NBV just wants to speed up processing thats why they are giving Eligibility Letter, since BP providers require IELTS...

Well, that was just my opinion....:nurse:

ahhh...that was really what i originally thought they were doing because they weren't including IELTS in the checklist....and then the BP providers would just require you... anyway, NBV knows that you won't be able to take the BP without a 7 in all bands so yup, maybe it's really to speed things up...

thanks, FArah...hope i get mine soon too....

How's your IELTS? you took it last July 23, right? Hope you could make it this time...

GOODLUCK:wink2:

Hi Farah, How long did it took you to receive your positive assessment from NBV? From the time you lodge your application up to the time you got your assessment. I submitted my docs to QNC since November 2008, but i have not receive positive assessment notification up to now. I also submitted my docs to NBV last friday.:nuke:
