New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

I think she applied to NBV way before the new rules, so, I am guessing that the old rule applied to her where the IELTS score is not yet flat 7 - correct me here lol. I think it's a bit unfair to require others to pass IELTS and let others have the eligibility without it imho.

possibly....i actually applied earlier than her, since i submitted in April...but i didn't pass my IELTS results because it was not part of the checklist although i asked IELTS to email directly to them...but never got any update on that...when i got a letter telling me what other documents they need, IELTS was not part of it...

thanks again for your time , Aelith.

:wink2:Hello to all!

Very informative and I really appreciate this. I think this also applies for those who are veterans in this field.

Hey I just wanted to catch up with you on how your plan for working in Australia is coming along. Are you in Australia now?

Hi all,

I'm back. I would just like to ask: If I am going to do the Queensland CAS Part B in Australia, what visa should I apply for, the Business Short Stay (456) or a tourist visa (676).

Please clarify. I am a bit confused. Thanks!

Hi Phoenix! Are you done with Part A? How's your application?

Well, it happened to Farah...I'm not sure yet...i shot them an email just now, and hopefully i'll get a response.

i think it makes sense as well if they still process it and then in the letter just tell you , you can now enroll in a BP course for the next 2 years and take your IELTS (like what Farah described).... hmmm....wondring :typing:wink2:

YES Chabeli, I have already a Letter of Eligibility from NBV...even without IELTS TRF, but the BP provifers require me to submit all 7 IELTS result before they accept me in BP....maybe NBV just wants to speed up processing thats why they are giving Eligibility Letter, since BP providers require IELTS...

Well, that was just my opinion....:nurse:

Hi Aelith, I applied in NBV last May 2009, my IELTS then didn't qualify even with their old rule, cause I got a 6.5 in writing which they do require a 7 rating in the old rule.... NBV really processed my application without looking anything about IELTS because I didn't forward my TRF.

With the new NBV rules, I don't know if they do require IELTS result first in order to process their application...

Yes, you're right its a bit unfair, even if it favors me...anyway, almost just the same scenario as I can't still do my BP...my only advantage is I lessen my headache and can concentrate now with the review of IELTS...:typing

Thanks dear Aelith...:wink2:

Hi all (most especially to the ever helpful Aelith),

Hi Phoenix, I think you have to apply for 456 rather 676, bacause 676 is just for tourism purposes and possible the DIAC will impose a "no further stay condition".

So, safer to apply for 456, then if you're that lucky, your employer can process and sponsor you a 457 visa...:yeah:

Hmm come to think about it, since NBV is not a member of ANMC's Council anymore, their requirements might be a bit different from the rest for now. If all applicants are not required to pass the IELTS then it's okay as long as it's fair for all those people applying in NBV, but if not... then that's a different issue. :S

Anyway, goodluck to all of you!~ hope you'll get your eligibility soon!
