Hi, may I solicit from anybody about my dilemma on what path to take. I graduated last 1996 and never worked as a nurse. I have been a housewife for 6 years. I realized that my brain is gradually deteriorating. Now, I want to return to our profession, first I will take the cgfns exam though I have no plans yet to work abroad. If I pass or fail, I will work as a nurse. I am considering dialysis, is it ok or can I handle it? I am willing to undergo training. Is there a job right now for us nurses that doesn't require to work on late night shifts?

before you can work as a nurse, you'll have to undergo training first as stated in the Nursing Act of 2002:

Acticle V: Nursing Education

Sec. 26. Requirement for Inactive Nurses Returning to Practice. - Nurses who have not actively practiced the profession for five (5) consecutive years are required to undergo one (1) month of didactic training and three (3) months of practicum. The Board shall accredit hospitals to conduct the said training program.

i guess that's where you should start.good luck!

My first question to you would be, why are you planning to take the CGFNS exam? It does not grant you a license in the US, and there are only a few states that actually still require it.

Getting experience now in the Philippines will not make any difference to working in the US at this point. If you stay in the Philippines to work, you will need to get the additional time back in to get your license.

Your choice as to what to do, but definitely not the route of the CGFNS exam. You should prepare only for the NCLEX-RN exam, the one that will give you a license here, of that is what your ultimate goal is.

suzanne is right about the cgfns exam. really unnecessary.

but if youre going to work here first, you have to undergo training since you were inactive for the last ten years. you should consult the BON

To suzanne and bloodytom, thank you very much, I will call BON tomorrow. As for me taking the cgfns exam, I think it's for the future, if in case after years of working in the Phils, I decide to work abroad, I think I can use it as my passport, sort of. My friends told me that cg is better coz it is a lifetime license together with ielts, unlike ncclex it has some sort of expiration so one has to work in the US within 2 years, are they correct? Also one thing ncclex, is they said, also has limited coverage unlike cg, it has more coverage, kindly educate me. And I plan to work here for years coz I think agencies would like their applicants to have at least 2 years nursing experience.

You got all wrong infos. The NCLEX RN is the licensing exam to be a US Nurse.

No way around it. pls read the stickies in the Int'l forum. Here just click the link: http://www.allnurses.com/forums/f75.

Please listen to what Suzanne and other posters has already said. The CGFNS examintaion is gradually being phased-out and if you read the stickies here and in the Int'l forum you'll know that only a few State BON requires the CGFNS exam.

Happy reading on all the stickies.

that's right. only the NCLEX-RN exam will give you the visa to work in the states as a nurse. so shift your plans from cgfns exam to NCLEX-RN exam.

To lawrence and bloodytom thanx a lot for the info, it is very enlightening. Good thing, I haven't paid my registration with cgfns yet, i will have to cancel it.

good luck to you!

i'll also be taking the nclex-rn exam soon

hi! dont worry too much about not having enough experience as a nurse, there are still a lot of hospital out there that accepts those who doesnt have experence..(jose reyes for ex.) I too have been out of the nursing scene for ages due to my having a family and had gone back to practice only recently. Iam skipping cg too as advise by suzanne, in the meantime Iam doing my self review for the nclex...Good luck to us both:balloons:

thanx bloodytom and jadegarden, i will redirect my attention to ncclex now.

hi, have you applied for eligibility? I think, if I am not mistaken, you have to apply for eligibility first before you take nclex. Well, I have to research more about NCLEX, it is shameful but I have to admit I don't even know what it stands for. All I know is that once you pass it you can work as a nurse in the US. How many years are you working now and how many years have you been out of our profession? I hope you don't mind asking.
