unfortunately can't be made up with practice. Has to be done with a recognised course/school of nursing/university. Some students found a course in Canada but can also be done in the US if you can find a school of nursing willing to accept you as a guest

    Hi Clare,
I think you will find it pretty hard finding somewhere that you can make up the hours, but I know some places do offer it, they are just pretty oversubscibed. Are you sure you need to make them up? You need 30-40 theory in paeds and 40-80 hours clinical.

You could try to contact the RCN international office if you are a member. They offer all sorts of guidance about working abroad and may be able to help you find somewhere that offers the top ups. Their number is:
    020 7647 3610. Good luck

Thanks so much for your help - thats great and thanks for the number to the RCN yes I am a member. I was told by the agency the requirements were 60/20 not sure which is theory and which is practical

Not sure how many universities offer top up, not many I bet as it probably would not pay for itself. As long as it is recognised there shouldn't be any problems. It would just be a case of ringing lots of universities and seeing if they offer top up courses

Would imagine it was 60 practical/ 20 theoretical but it's an unusual number, not seen that ratio before.
I had 285 practical and 63 theoretical. That was plenty! Those good old fashioned courses didn't half pack in the hours!!

Yep, I had similar hours, old style training had some good stuff about it

Find out actual specifics from the state that you are interested in, do not go by what an agency tells you. Those hours that were listed are incorrect for all states in the US.

OGP has a programme for nurses who need to top up hours, but you will have to sign their contract before you can go on the course. the course last apprx 4months and cost 150-450 depending on the areas u need make up hours. the theory part is delivered online and you will have to arrange your own practical placements
