International College of Health Sciences

Updated:   Published

Hi Everyone,

I'm new here and hopefully I'm posting this in the right area. I'm currently an LVN in Ca and looking into a 1 year LVN-RN on-line program based out of Fl. The name of the school is called International College of Health Sciences based out of Boyton Beach, Fl. I was just wondering if anyone here has had some experiences in dealing with this school, currently attending, or could provide any insight into the program. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

The passing rate for HESI exit is 850 preferred score is 900 that's the HESI standard and the school use that. If you get 850 you will pass. There are two kinds of students, those who like to complain because they didn’t pass and those who just go with the flow and work. Me? I'm just thankful and sharing with you my experienced. About the clinical, I don't know why they are complaining about it, we are in pandemic situation people. Schools in CA are canceling three semesters and we still moving. Many of my LVN classmates were able to get experiential credit from their work. I don’t know how long that will last but yeah due to the pandemic the previous capstone and the current capstone collided but it slowly works out. I was able to finish my 10 days clinical in June and pass my exit first try. I'm finished. I'm just waiting for my ATT authorized to test for NCLEX RN.

I agree with your posts! I'm studying for my exit next month. Any studying tips? I'm using the HESI comprehensive review NCLEX book. Just nervous as with any test LOL

Many students aren’t LVNs and they said they won’t accept other licenses/experience from CA for clinical time. Do you know how many days of clinicals are required for those types of students?  The school is not clear on any of this.  Also, did you have to use Typhon?  It looks like they’re requiring a certain amount of certain skills to be recorded.  What happens if there aren’t enough opportunities for each student?
When did you finish your online courses?  Also, what type of facility were your clinicals at?  Was it a hospital or assisted living/SNF?  Or a respiratory rehab?
I completely appreciate your time, but please give details if you can.  There are so many details that the school evades elaborating on.

When did you finish your online courses compared to when you finished clinicals?  How many days of clinicals did you have to do and was it all done in one trip?

Btw-what do you mean by your ATT?  Don’t you need the CA BRN to authorize and approve the education from ICHS?
also, we’re your ten days of clinicals done all in one trip?  Thank you again.

@GynOncNurse

I was doing UWorld until some students told me about ybg so I switched to ybg. It's harder than the actual exam but it will prepare you for the comprehensive exit. Just read the rationale. I bought the comprehensive book but I hated it cause their rationale sucks. I never open it since. On the actual exam read the questions twice or thrice, don't change your answer stick to your gut if you think it's the answer. Practice with a timer so during the actual exam you don't run out of time. Practice practice practice. That's all I can say. Goodluck!

@Overcast I'm applying for FL BON then endorse to CA BON once I pass my NCLEX. The process to endorse once passed is pretty easy according to my classmates who already had passed.

No hospital clinical only SNF. Do I want a hospital of course but what can you do, there's no hospital site. I'm not LVN either. I have zero knowledge about nursing but I am dedicated and focus on what I want. If I can do it you can do it.

ATT (Authorized to test) is a letter from NCSBN to schedule your NCLEX exam.

I was done last month June 2021... once you passed your exit. You can start the NCLEX application right away. I don't know about you waiting for CA BON.. Goodluck with the long wait process, FL BON is quick once they got your transcript. Endorsing your FL RN license to CA BON is quicker than trying to apply for a license in CA.

The school will tell you how many hours of clinical you need. Normally, each semester has clinical hours ex. Psych and Med surg 1, but due to pandemic the clinical was canceled. So I was doing all my remaining clinical when they open the site. When I think I was safe to fly to FL. I schedule my clinical and 2 day check-off lab which is skills demonstration. (watch Youtube) on May. I plan to take my exam in June and I was able to find clinical hours for 10days in June before my final exam. You need to finish your clinical before final exam. The rest just ask/ email the school what you need just follow their advice, talk to your classmates and study.

Thank you! Appreciate it!

I confirmed with the school.  They are just now starting clinicals for students who finished online courses in February 2021 and they aren’t available for all of those students yet and aren’t sure of future availability either.  405 hours of actual in-person clinicals are required.  I’m not sure where these other people are coming from when they’re mentioning ten days of clinicals and finishing in a month after their online courses are done.  You’re looking at over two years -minimum- to even begin clinicals (that are not promised) and only two shots at the HESI exit exam to score an A.  This school has not graduated people in quite some time and has complaints on the BBB website as well.  They’re NCLEX pass rate will put them on warning for probation once the COVID protection for schools are lifted. I’m withdrawing along with other coworkers of mine.  I don’t trust that this school will continue to meet CA BRN requirements.  Not for the newer cohorts at least.

@Overcast Best of luck to you.

That is incorrect about clinicals just starting, as well as needing an A for the exit HESI. You need to get the national standard to pass, 850. The comment on the BBB is interesting from 2018 but seems like the only review. Also, my 2 friends from the Feb finishing cohort received their degrees in the mail by this past May when they completed their clinicals and exit.  Best of luck to you.

I hope no one force you to sign-up to this school. You registered on your well. So you can leave anytime you want too. It looks like your just looking on the bad reviews with the UNHAPPY Students. For me I AM BLESSED THAT I WENT TO THIS SCHOOL! Now I AM WORKING AS RN UNIT MANAGER IN SANTA MONICA CALIFORNIA. Maybe this school is not for you. You may walk away if your expectation is not met. But your student loan will not go away though. Good luck to your nursing journey.

How many days of in person clinicals did they have to do?  And I’m how many trips to Florida?

Just a piece of advice my dear. The source of answer to your questions is the school. So, you may want to contact the school and ask everything you want to know. That’s how you handle your situation. Do not go around and ask questions to other people, they might gave you a wrong informations and give you more troubles!  Hope you will be OK.
