international autosource

World UK

Hi there folks,

i just wondered if any of you have had any experiance of the above named company for obtaining your car on arrival to the USA?

i recieved some information about them from OGP in a relocation pack

in the pack it states that they can obtain USA finance for you on a brand new car/truck, which seems competitively priced, this will go a long way to starting a USA credit history.

They deliver the car on arrival the tag and insurance are taken care of by them, it seems to make the buying process less hassle (one less thing to think about)

any opinions?????

am off to town now to get my international driving licence- hurrah!!

Hi,

I also bought my car through international autosource. They were very helpful. The only problem with their finance at that time was they wanted a reference from someone already in the US.I didn't know anyone.I bought my car for cash and collected it a week after my arrival. My meet and greet was great and ferried me around for the first week.I had to wait 5 weeks to sit my driving test as my social security number took that long to arrrive.

I have done the driving test in Arizona and also here in California. The California test was more like the UK test.It is done in two parts on two separate days.

I would recommend IAS to anyone coming out and I know my friend was happy with their insurance.

out of curiousity, did you come with an agency? im assuming that they would cover the reference side of it, i might be wrong though

right i found some information

if you are a resident you must take a USA driving test within 10 days of arrival unless you hold an international drivers licence which allows you to drive for 1 year

if you are a tourist you can drive for upto 1 year on your country of origin licence

as i am a greencard holder (or will be) i assume i am resident, that means i need to take the test or have the international one

phew that took some finding

Thanks for the excellent advise on getting an international driving licence. Went to the post office today with my driving licence, photo, passport and £5.50 and got one. Read on many sites that should have as some insurance companies won't insure you as a permanent resident without if you haven't had a chance to take your test. As each state is different and allows a different amount of time for a permanent resident to get the drivers licence I'd rather have it as I am sure once we get there there will be lots of other things to sort out.

thanks

dont depend on an international driving licence for getting insurance on any vehicle. I dont know any state that accepts these for lawful permanent residents which is what you will be. you have to produce a licence from the US, to get your insurance, they ask you for the licence number and what state its from, and sometimes ask for a copy. each state has different times that they give you to get one. anything from 10-90 days. but you cant buy a car and drive it from the car sales lot unless you show them that you have it insured.

so the international licence and the UK licence are only good for hire cars. but they are only meant for tourists, the US dont recognise them for green card holders. if the police were to pull you in and you didnt have the licence after the appropriate time then you could be in trouble.

hmm the last thing any of us needs is a ticket in our first few months of being there it sounds like we will have enough to deal with :uhoh3:

anyway thought i would tell you all about my international autosource quote for a car

nice man from said company rang yesterday we told him about the truck mark had seen on their website

list price was 28000

so you put down 20% as a deposit or more if you like

they are not interested in your credit history from the uk, but by financing with them you do start a us credit history.

they require a employment letter from your employer stating that you will be earning $75000 per year (which i wont!) they get round this by financing you with a bank rather than the company (dodge, ford etc) finance, unless your partner has a job to go to, mine has so we would have a combined income of this much, car is delivered to your specified address all you do is pay for your tags

have a hangover so i hope that all makes sense

For AZ the tags could cost aprox 10% of the total price of the car. All the taxes are added in at the end just so you can budget for around $2800 and if you get change great. If you want a special number plate which is not taken for example-NURSE1 here in AZ that would only cost around $25 extra. You dont pay car tax yearly but you do pay for your licence plate yearly.

Oh yeah you get a financial pack from OGP for the the Bank of America, and they will do a car loan, the interest rate is 9.5% and normally they lend around $10000 if you wanted to do the car thing when you get here-some nurses cant afford to buy too expensive, especially if they come alone. You have to buy from an approved car dealership.

that doesnt sound too bad kay i havnt recieved the pack yet though so i wonder if they have changed it? especially as they are pushing IAS.

the repayments are quite high for the car we want really and we are worried about having enough disposible income each month as we dont want to overstretch ourselves but we need two cars

we are going around car dealers here later to try some vehicles to see if we can come to any conclusions about it all

Your meet and greet will give it to you when you get here-I doubt they would want you to have it before as it contains a signed letter of employment and recommendation to the Bank Of America.

Before we came over we ordered 2 cars from interntional autosource and they were great through the whole thing. We picked up ours cars (Grand Cherokke Jeep and Jeep Liberty) and the whole process was smooth. We did not come through OGP just FYI.

As a thought Claire if you are going to Arizona for a holiday before you move out here why not take your driving test then? This is what we did and it was one thing less to do - all we needed to do was get it changed by walking in there and having the address changed and status to Resident.

actually Sue, thats not a bad idea but to be honest we have no plans to go there at all before we go to live, which admittedly does sound completely crazy :selfbonk:

kay, i wondered about that, the same would go for mark really, im sure he wouldnt be able to get one either until he actually started work, i will ask about this when i email the chap later in the week.

im quite lucky as i know my meet and greet person already, i will have to ask her what happens that day, unless you have some insight into it?

God Clare-Jill and I had a useless guy who had never done it before and never did it again, luckliy both the other nurse and I had been here before and both had accomodation set up and bank accounts. I would have hated not to be prepared. Believe it or not he crashed his car straight out of the airport with my ds in it!!!! No injuries but he was driving and talking to my ds and not looking ahead. But Linda had a great meet and greet so everything when really smoothly and he even took her out for a meal.

blimy kay you dont have much luck with darn motor vehicles over there!

its a bit naughty that they send someone who isnt great at it as it can affect how you feel about the whole experiance!!
