Hi there folks,

i just wondered if any of you have had any experiance of the above named company for obtaining your car on arrival to the USA?

i recieved some information about them from OGP in a relocation pack

in the pack it states that they can obtain USA finance for you on a brand new car/truck, which seems competitively priced, this will go a long way to starting a USA credit history.

They deliver the car on arrival the tag and insurance are taken care of by them, it seems to make the buying process less hassle (one less thing to think about)

any opinions?????

am off to town now to get my international driving licence- hurrah!!

I am with OGP and I have been told that it is essential that I obtain an international drivers license before I leave the UK, not only that, they also recommend that I secure a vehicle before leaving.

I've known a few nurses who have gone over to the US and didn't get a international license just took the test within a month or so. The main thing is to be aware that each state has their own requirements on what to do regarding driving tests and licenses

hmm better safe than sorry thats all im trying to say

also i will have enough to do in the first few days without bothering to take my driving test, 10 days isnt very long to do everything

it is easy for things to go wrong, what if something happened and i wasnt able to take my test? then my goose would be cooked, so i have gone with the safer option, whether it is mandatory or not im covered either way

good link, its a shame it doesnt specify what happens if you are an immigrant from another country, does it mean if you are a visitor, this is why things get so mixed up!

The lnk I posted is for Arizona,I suggest if needed for you to check out the the Drving licence link for the state you are moving to just to be on the safe side.

i think what would be useful from 'the agency' is a pack which actually has the legal requirements, not what they require as a company, i think that would help everyone

unfortunately, as this thread illustrates, the information they give isnt universal or clear

mind you this appears to be part of going through the process with them.:o

Ladies

Is anyone aware of the requirement for an International Bicycling Proficiency Licence in AZ or should the one I obtained when I was 11 years of age (even though it's Welsh) be sufficient?

I have tried this link, but am more confused than ever

When I came to the US I just went and got a driving licence it was a very simple proceedure. Then we got insurance when we bought our car-it is quite frightening because you havent a clue what you are doing, and our meet and greet rep was next to useless. He was from a foreign country himself and we were his first clients, Gill the other brit just gave him short shift and did everything herself.

Friends from the UK who live here have just told me that unless you have an US driving licence in Az you wont be able to buy a car because you cannot buy a car here without insurance-the insurance companies wont insure anybody unless they have an US Driving licence. They will not insure you with an international or Uk licence-unless you are hiring a car.

I dunno if I would recommend buying a car before you get here because you may want a bigger car-but I agree it may save you a lot of hassle. Whatever you do you feel shafted because I do think cars are as expensive if not more so than back home.

oi your link doesnt work!!

lmao

and there is nothing ladylike about my previous post, for which i have apologised :wink2:

a bike sounds a hard way to get around in wales with all those hills

kay i know what you mean about the meet and greet, someone i know was met off the plane with the immortal words 'what did you choose this place for its a dump!'

talk about optimism, especially just after going through 12 hour flight, and immigration, i think they need to choose more carefully who they choose to do these meets!

Kay, would you say that a big car would be better then? is this due to your accident or for practical reasons? we are thinking about getting a truck as mark will need one for work, him being a builder.

the theory was if we got one with a crew cab we could all use it until i managed to get a car of sorts, i thought about a 4x4 or dodge caravan for family use, thought about getting the first one through IAS and using that vehicle to drive to get the second.

well thats the plan.... sort of...... i think..... lol
