Hello everyone,
It's great to see a distance /independent learning topic. Currently, I am considering Deaconess School of Nursing. Is there anyone else considering this school? I find I definately work better independently and I'm hoping to make a decision soon on whether to go for Deaconess or not. The problem is the cost, it is so darn expensive. I am trying to get into my local college adn program but there are a ton of applicants so I don't know if that's going to happen. I am not going to wait another year to start nursing school if I don't have to.
Hope to hear from other independent learners soon.

Hopefully this forum will be more active than some of the other distance ed ones. Usully when theperson running the group graduates, they stop maintaining.
I'm a Regents (Excelsior) Grad. I'm currently the Director of Nursing and run a program at my hospital to help LPN's and EMT/Paramedics get their ADN through Excelsior. In my enviroment I get the best of the ADN and the Diploma programs with a sig cost savings. I'd be glad to help anyone as best I can.
Having a support group will get you much farther than spending money on the different publishers out there. Just set reaonable goals for yourself and work towards them. Don't get upset when someone says that they did the whole thing in 6 months. Everyones life is different.
Good luck everyone
(and no this isnt a payed advertisment)

Craig, I too am a PROUD regents grad. Your program sounds very interesting and Id love to hear a little more about it if you could indulge me
The support group indeed was my saving grace and it is a shame that they arent maintained. I too departed soon after passing the boards but like you Im willing to assist and advise anyone in need.
It takes a special and dedicated person to complete non-traditional programs such as these. We are few and far between and its nice to have a place to meet/greet and support one another.
Didnt use a publishing company bought and borrowed books and used the study guides provided. Took me 5 years start to finish for ADN

I am new to this thread and have a few questions about distance learning, so if any of you could offer some insight, I would really appreciate it!
What is RUE?
How did you pick a program?
How do future employers/future programs (master's level, etc.) view distance learning?
Thanks in advance for any insight you have!
I took one test a month, and for me that was perfect.
When I hire a new nurse, I don't look at what school she graduated from. I look for a license, references and then he/she gets 90 days initial orientation/internship. Then things go from there.
As to grad school. I got in the first try.

Craig,
Wanna move to PA and take on a director of nursing position here?
I am currently trying to secure a clinical site for a program I hope to begin in June. Yee-Gads it's like pulling teeth to get someone to call me back so that I can explain the program. It seems to be that if I was a student from one of the local college nursing programs they would have no problem with me doing my clinical rotations with them. I'm beginning to think there is no shortage here in PA.
Anyway, just thought I'd try and lure you over here!
Great to hear those in Kansas have a person like you to work with.

A little off topic, but have you noticed the number of hits this thread is getting? Wow, this topic has only been up for such a short time, it's really amazing how many people are interested in distance ed.
