Hello everyone,
It's great to see a distance /independent learning topic. Currently, I am considering Deaconess School of Nursing. Is there anyone else considering this school? I find I definately work better independently and I'm hoping to make a decision soon on whether to go for Deaconess or not. The problem is the cost, it is so darn expensive. I am trying to get into my local college adn program but there are a ton of applicants so I don't know if that's going to happen. I am not going to wait another year to start nursing school if I don't have to.
Hope to hear from other independent learners soon.

Hello everyone,
I am Shonda and I am new to the forum. I am hoping to start my pre-reqs next month. I am not new to the medical field but I will be new to nursing. I was an EMT for 6 1/2 yrs and I graduated from Medical Assisting school.
I found out alittle too late that California has changed their rules on student entering the Excelsior's College Nursing program. They don't exept EMTs anymore :-(
I am trying to find a good nursing school in Southern California. It is hard because I am active duty and although and am permanantly in Southern CA, the hours are not working with me.
Anyone have some good advice. I am married with 2 beautiful daughters at home. We can't afford the one income right now because I am the main income at this point til my hubby gets a higher job with his degree.
Please send any advice.
Thanks

Curious. Can't you apply for nursing school as part of your active duty. I am assuming the military is having a problem recruiting nurses too and I thought they had scholarships. Just a thought.
Hi there,
I am a Supply Sgt which is 92Y.
I am ready to leave it alone but I can't find the right job or right pay to get off of active duty.
I wish there was a way around it but right now I will work on the pre-reqs and see what happens when I am done.
I found a school I am thinking of enrolling in and they only require the psychology1, english 1 and college chemistry. The rest of the classes are in the program.
It brings my time doing pre-reqs more easier to get through and I can get in the program faster. I am hoping to start school next Spring.
My sister and I are going to go together hopefully. I will see.
Hope everything is going well with everyone.
Take care
Hi Shonda,
have you considered the AMEDD enlisted commissioning program? If you got in the Army would pay your tuition and your pay would continue at your current grade. After you graduate with a BSN you would be a 2LT. Then you could work for a while to pay back the Army then get out with experience as a Nurse and with no problems in getting a good job! You can send get more info from this e-mail: [email protected]

I have been reading some of your statements. I too am the bread winner in my house. this is why i found it difficult to take so many classes and work. i have to work. i feel and my sister agrees with me she's in this with me (a great deal ahead of me) that college network (the publishing company) was a waste of my money. we would have been better off going straight to excelsior. if i could just start passing my test i can do this but it's getting started with passing and learning their test with me. i learn the material. it is so frustrating i have been an lpn since 92' i know my stuff. i have worked of my career in the hospital setting. the first test come to find out was out date. so here i am waiting for an updated book. does anyone know if Lisa has updated her notes and could you send me her address again. i wish they would have a heart and not charge us for this last test but my luck goes they have no heart. gone for now. sue:uhoh3: :rotfl:

Rue is not associated with Excelsior at all. They sell study supplies and that is all. Some people that I have been in contact with felt that the materials supplied through Rue were helpful but others feel Excelsior supplies you with a study guide at no cost. Some have said that what Excelsior recommended was more than enough. Good luck.
