In Todays New World a question or two

How many nurses today carry first aid kits in their cars or on their person so they can function well as a first responder.

I don't

How many nurses today in the new brave world of today carry guns so they can protect themselves, their family. and others against senseless violence that is occuring more frequently

I do, and Im licensed to also.

Specializes in ICU, ER.

Neither to both.

I used to have a pocket mask. I can't find it anymore. Heck, I can even find my keys half the time. No weapons, just my big mouth. I loved the NYC mugging story. Good for you.

How about non-violent crisis management? Do any of you have this at work? I don't know if I'd remember it all. Honestly, if I was being strangled or seriously hurt, I would do what I can to get away and worry about the other party later. That includes a pt. or their S.O.'s

Specializes in OB.

I carry just enough first aid supplies to manage the results of my own personal klutziness.

As for the weapon, if I did I wouldn't say so.

Specializes in ER, ICU, L&D, OR.

I also carry my golf clubs with me at all times

I need to replenish my gloves and find that mask. :trout:

I used to carry a pistol . . but not anymore.

steph

First aid kit, gloves, one way mask in car & on key chain, towels in gym bag, saline spray & alcohol gel.

Pepper spray on key chain too.

I have added a sword to my trunk now, a Katana. Very nice quality also.

Specializes in Community, OB, Nursery.

My face mask is sitting right on my dresser. Very convenient place. ;)

Don't carry a gun, though I've considered it. I'd want to learn to use it and I'd want some target practice too. Wouldn't want to keep it in my house. DH says it's not necessary - his words: "If you saw someone breaking into this house, I don't think you'd need a weapon. You'd get angry enough you could rip their heart out with your bare hands."

I guess if he is still alive he hasnt seen the full force of your anger then.

Small first aid kit-yes. No gun though; my oldest son is bipolar and the possible risk if he had a manic episode or rage just wasn't worth it, so I store it at my parents'. I do have a knife; I keep a pocket mask attached to it so I can find the mask in my purse.;)

Specializes in ER/PICU.

I Carry A First Aid Kit, A Face Mask, But No Gun. I Am In The

Business Of Saving Lives; Not Taking Them. I Don't Think I

Could Hold A Gun Up To Someone And Not Hurt Myself Instead.

Anyway; I Live In A Rural Area Where Most People Leave Their

Doors Unlocked And Keys In The Car (crazy Hon?) As Far As

Responding To Car Accident Victims; I Have A Few Times.

It has never occurred to me to carry a gun of any type. Of course, I grew up in NYC and even a BB gun is illegal there. No one but cops had guns - at least, no one respectable. Unless they hunted, and that was extremely rare.

Now I live where they have teesny baby camo gear. Bizarre.

The only violent crime against me was someone I knew.
