hi if you were called in for an interview or accepted into the philips beth israel school of nursing in new york city please reply and if you do not mind post your ad percentile and your overall composite score from the nln exam. i am trying to get an idea of what range of scores is being called. i am still waiting and ready to jump. :selfbonk: i greatly appreciate it. today is 4/23/06

Hi FLAtoNYC

I called about the scholarship and they told me information or seults are not available until tomorrow. Odd. I did not tell them my name at that point so it can't of been that. Anyway, I will just wait for the letter I guess. I thought orientation was only one day. Guess I should break the news to my boss I'll be out more than one day.

Yes I am getting nervous also but in an excited way.

Hi I just called also. I was informed of a small grant I received when I received my acceptance letter. The scholarships I was taking about which were the applications included in the financial aid package, I was told I did not receive. The woman in financial aid said I sounded disappointed, I mentioned that the grant I received barely covers all the fees that are added to the tuition. On top of that the grant is divided into two one half for each semester. To make a long story short, I would up calling back and I inquired about the nursing student loan which I applied for directly with the school, also not much money but every dollar counts and I was told that they are working on that today and that they should have an answer on that issue by tomorrow. I showed my concern about school starting soon and am afraid of receiving a tution bill (minus what ever grants, loans, and deposits) that will be an over whelming amount to pay in very short time. Well tomorrow Mrs. Chan the director of financial aid is in, I will try my luck with her tomorrow.

Sorry about not getting the scholarship. They said they didn't have anything decided yet when I called today about the scholarship. I didn't even get a chance to get my name out! I also know only of the small grant that came with the acceptance letter. They certainly aren't giving us much time to figure out how to pay the bill.

Let's keep our fingers crossed for a better outcome on finances in the next few days. :chair:

they told me about my scholarship while i was in the office. its not much, but it helps a little. it really is all about last minute info... i have no idea how i am going to come up with the remainder of the tuition in 3 weeks.... AHHHHHH! my fafsa is all messed up right now cause i filed 1099s instead of w2s cause i was contracting out last year instead of working directly through a company so my gov't money is going to be a while.... (loans and pell) and we still have to buy books, shoes, stethescopes, supplies....

why is orientation a week long? anyone know?

A few years ago I went to BI. I loved the school and I am glad for all of you who have the honor of attending this fall. To answer the question about why orientation is a week long:

You will spend at least 1 day learning and practicing NCLEX testing strategies. Yes, you haven't learned a single idea about nursing, but you are already learning how to crack the NCLEX code.

You will spend at least two days learning CPR. They teach it for real, not the hoakie CPR that most healthcare facilites teach in 1/2 hour. They will teach you how to use an AED. You will learn CPR for adults, children and infants. The instructors are really good and pretty entertaining. This class was a great icebreaker for getting to know your classmates.

You will probably spend at least one day learning about the school, policies and procedures and everything else. You will have many opportunities to get to know your classmates. You will learn nursing school survival techniques and how to study. I know--most people in your class will already have advanced degrees and claim they already know how to study, but I really learned alot about improving my own study techniques.

Be prepared to get your buttocks firmly struck and have a good time while you are at it.

Leslie, any chance that someone at the school mentioned what type of shoes we may need. At this point in time everything is a guessing game.

Wow, thanks for your post. Just like everyone else I always feel better when I am not feeling as if I am in the dark. Your post was very informative.

i dont know this for a fact but i looked at some pics on myspace to see the uniforms and a girl from last year had pics up of everyones duty shoes together and they were all plain white sneakers. i think that that is pretty standard for nursing school.

seriously thanx for the info romie. i just feel like im jumping into the abyss right now with school. time keeps ticking by and i feel like i have no idea what is going on or what to expect.

I asked about the shoes a while ago as I have size 13 feet :chuckle and wanted to make sure I was able to get the shoes if they were something specific. I was just told white sneakers, no clogs of any sort. They are pretty easy to come by so I am going to wait until after orientation to get them.

Thanks for the info Romie. We'll take any info anyone will give us right now!

Any chance I can have the link to myspace to see the uniforms. I was not able to go to the fitting day as I was on vacation. Maybe you will have to PM it. Not sure if you can post it on the site.

Thanks
