  1. Dear Roser13, I am very sorry for obviously offending you so severely that you felt the need to reply to not one, but two posts in a row regarding my error in misspelling hipaa. In fact, my embarrassment in my error is so great that I attempted to delete my post in it's entirety which is not an option, and to delete my account here completely, which is also not an option, so I must sit here with my head hanging low in sorrow over being a disgrace to the profession. I see that you have almost 2000 posts here on allnurses.com, and are presently a nurse educator, so I realize that you must be somewhat of a nurse expert, not only in your particular field, but in the vast world of internet nursing. I hope that my error that was made in frantic cell phone typing has not caused you any personal frustration or grief and that I have not made your many, many, many hours spent here or membership fees for allnurses any less valuable to you, as this is clearly a very large part of your life. I can only look into my past, and wish upon a star that I could go back in time and have the joy of experiencing you as a teacher to me so I could have become a much better nurse than the failure and embarrassment to the profession that I clearly am today. I also hope that in all of your internet ventures and in real life, you stay true to yourself and stand proud in the fact that you are a great representation of nurses around the world and will never, ever, make an error in frustration. I wish I could meet you in person so I could see what I may become if I could really put my all into my internet persona. Everyone needs a goal and I thank you with all my heart for taking just a minute out of your busy life to be such an inspiration so I can become a better person and nurse than I am today. Thank you for everything... ME
  2. I CAN appreciate and I apologize for my error. You guys are really tough... I was really fired up and typing from my iphone really fast in the car. Thanks at least for reading my story and for the couple of responses that helped. I am sorry to have offended you ALL by my frenzied typing. I love allnurses and reading your stories and wanted to share mine cause I was so frustrated and annoyed. And I am sorry to have made some people upset. I happen to be a pretty great RN IMHO, and unfortunately I am also human and make mistakes. I hope that you can look past my error and help me figure out what to do.
  3. I am at dinner with my husband tonight and he tells me that he got a call today on his cell he uses for work from someone who claimed to work at the office of a doctor he saw one time over a year ago saying that said MD told him my husband had come to the office for back pain and asking if he had time to talk about his pain killer usage... (background... DH has 2 herniated disks and nerve damage for about 5 years now and a lot of pain and is under treatment from a different doc and gets injections into the bones every other month. This particular MD is a family practice doc and when we moved here last year, hubby chose her for primary and he saw her ONCE for a physical when he was told she couldn't manage him and he would have to see someone else... He changed his primary asap and the new MD sent him to ortho and pain management which is specialists who were treating him in NY). So back to today, my husband told the man on the phone he could not talk because he was at work and was given a phone # to call back when he could. He called the man back a few hours later and it went to voicemail saying this is "John at such and such clinical research facility" leave a message. DH didn't and told me later about call. Well my DH works in advertising sales locally and it just so happens that "such and such research facility" is one of his clients. So not only did this doc give out his name, cell, and medical history to this research company, they gave it to one of his clients at work... The phone # that he called btw is in no way associated with the docs office and instead links to research company. I googled this company and they have multiple studies on back pain happening right now so I am assuming they were soliciting participants. Am I completely wrong about this being a HUGE hipaa violation cause I feel like this is pretty bad news... And what the H-E double hockey sticks do we do now? These people are his clients and don't need to know his medical history! It's a fairly small company, 5 PIs, clinical staff of 20... How many other people I wonder are getting the same calls and don't know that their info has been exposed??? Lucky for us my DH told me and I told him not to accept any more calls from this man saying he works for the doc but this is completely wrong and a hipaa violation, is it not?
  4. Just a thought... many of the leukemia protocols include high doses of steriods in induction. This tends to make many of the kids extremely irritable, argumentative, and just plain difficult. I work in peds Onc and try to make my parents understand that this will pass and is an expected but unfortunate side effect of treatment. Add that to an overwhelmed family and a complete distruption of their normal routines... well you can imagine...
  5. I am a peds heme-onc rn in NYC planning on moving back to o-town sometime in the spring next year. I am looking for info on peds hospitals that have solid peds heme-onc units or infusion clinics. Basically, where are they? How large are they? Pt ratios, mixed units or specialized? Salaries for experience and certification (CPON/CPN) That kind of thing. Not worried about staff status, i would be happy with per diem or part time work, nights/days whatever. My only thing is... I don't do adults. (and have no experience in them anyway) I plan on visiting the area to house shop in september and was going to see if i could arrange a visit at arnold palmer and florida childrens to get a feel for the units. Are there any other opportunities for peds nurses besides schools that I dont know about? I also wanted to see what other kinds of specialties are big at the hospitals so i can make myself more marketable by picking up some per diem work around here before the move so I have no down time in employment. (PICU/Cardiac/Renal/transplant/ even home care/ LTC etc) Any relocation or signing bonuses going on there for experienced RNs? I am coming no matter what but that might make my husband feel better about moving sooner rather than later next spring and I cant hardly wait. Any info or contacts on or in the Orlando metro area would be greatly appreciated. Thanx!!!
  6. Hi all. Good luck, you picked a great program. I just graduated this year. Anyone want PBISN textbooks (I will include all my study guides and notes if you buy the books at a minimal price)? Need to clear out my bookshelves so i can fill them with fun things to read now that I am done. PM me!!!
  7. Anyone from PBISN present or future interested in any textbooks, study guides or notes? Please PM me if interested and Ill give you a list of what I have. PBISN grad, class of 08'
  8. I just got hired at Montefiore in peds heme/onc as a new grad with ADN. I am so surprised you are having problems with a BSN as most places here will not look at you without one. i went to Beth Israel SON and most of my friends are taking jobs at a continuum hospital so I know there are positions there, but the salary is much better at Monte. Where are you wanting to work, manhattan or are you open to another borough, what specialty? I know there are plenty of positions open at the Westchester Co. hospitals also, and if you move up there there is no city tax which is a huge bonus. Just a hop skip and jump from Grand Central and you might actually get a yard.
  9. I am taking it tomorrow also..... My stomach is so sick.... It has been for days. Do you guys think we will have to wait till Mon for results? That is going to make for a horrible weekend. Fireworks might cause me to have a heart attack:). Good Luck all....
  10. 1. quiz is not quizz. don't write it on the board please. don't you notice when you come back later that we have corrected your spelling? 2. when someone asks a question it is not appropriate to say " do your homework" when we all know it is because you don't know the answer. can you not hear the snickers coming from the classroom? we are on to you. 3. we are working under your license, remember? don't you want good nurses in the field you profess to love so much? so then how the heck are you passing them when its a month to graduation and they don't know how to hang an iv med on a pump when we have had a year to practice, constantly ask stupid questions in clinical about what is dyspnea or oliguria, and copy thier assessments on the computer from what was documented before them? and then those same students miss clinicals at least once in every rotation which only lasts 3 weeks or come in 3 days a week stinking like booze with tremors. stop passing people because you don't want to make yourself look mean. they could kill someone.
  11. Hi all! I am about to be a new grad with an ADN taking NCLEX in July. I am looking for information on great pediatric units or pediatric specialty hospitals in the tristate area to apply to. I am Peds or bust and plan on waiting to work until I get a job in Peds. That is why I went to school in the first place and I plan on getting my BSN by June 09 and my NP in peds ASAP following. I worked as an entertainer for a great many years and I have volunteer experience at Joe Dimmagio and the Make a Wish foundation which is what inspired me to become a nurse (to explain why I am set on pediatrics, not just stubborn or close-minded:-)) Because I am only an ADN soon to be grad, my options for applications are limited because many will only look at you with a BSN. Morgan Stanley is not an option, but I am looking into Maria Ferari and LIJ. They are the only two all-peds hospitals that I know of. I also have heard that Montefiore has a great unit and did my peds rotation at St Lukes which was great. However, I think they are both union hospitals which means that jobs go internally and peds is in high demand for transfers. Soooooo, I am looking for suggestions as to where to apply that will look at an ADN grad with great grades and references, a really positive attitude, and ready to work hard. Any info would be greatly appreciated as i would like to get the ball rolling. Thank you much in advance.
  12. For a school assignment, what are some important discharge instructions for patients with Rheumatic fever with and without cardiac complications besides prophylactic antibiotics? THat was all I could think of. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  13. Thanks guys... I still cant figure out what the little i is but hopefully someone will know at school tomorrow. Ugh. Thats what I get for picking up too many shifts during my 2 weeks off and waiting till the last possible minute. Hope everyone is having a great time going back to school, back to school to prove to dad that i'm not a fool (billy madison anyone?) OKOKOKOK ill stop procrastinating even more and study.
