I hate the fact that nurses do have to wipe asses!

I rather kill myself when i am to wipe my back.

yes you can call me immature.

I am a first year RN program student, in Toronto, Canada and I have attempted a degree already to go to pharm school but failed. Now knowing my student loan is increasing and I myself am aging to be responsible for my own life. yeah i chose nursing.

I think myself compassionate, and am willing to help. I am very approachable. I do easily make friends. However I really don't wanna wipe the asses for my life. I regard myself too smart to wipe back.

I don't know why nurses have to wipe the back here in Canada and US.

In asia, people hire psws to do the job. Nurses are too skilled for that kind of job.

I don't mind being with blood and wounds all the time. i rather prefer blood than urine and excrement.

Can somebody let me know where I am likely to see more of blood? and unlikely see excrement&urine? OR, ICU, emergency rooms are in my mind.

You're welcome. I humbly accept your euphemism.

Well, I didn't mean to disgrace nurses. As I mentioned above,

I think "nurses are way too skilled for that kind of job". If I were a member of union, I wouldn't let nurses wipe the back. In that way nurses do regard their jobs way more professional, seriously how many of you really find joy and happiness when you are dealing with those? I firmly believe it will lead to decrease the understaffed condition in nursing field.

Why don't people just hire someone to do those washing jobs, like we did to garbage pickers.

In Asia, a lot of nurses in hospital settings do not wipe the back.

You are unqualified to be a nurse. Nothing is beneath a nurse when it comes to patient care. Move along. Asia, maybe.

yeah maybe I should go back to Asia where they don't tend to wipe the back once I get my degree here.

I will try to change all the policies and standards that nurses do have to wipe the back in future:yeah:

or else I will do something unrelated to wiping. I really see economical benefits towards changing this standard. How come few of current nurses here

don't see these benefits?

Specializes in plenty mostly agency.

OK, I will start by saying that yes there are areas of nursing where you will not have to do the dirty work, also its not that there is a lack of education that PCA'S get stuck doing these jobs. It"s that Nurses have more important duties that something as small as back wiping and toilet assist. They were trained for their jobs and we were trained for ours and it all come together whereas the pt gets the care they need. jobs. I took a 2wk cna class when I first moved to my current hometown before going to nursing school. I didn't tell my mother about it because I had heard her speak about the hard work thats put on cna's. I loved my job the only reason I quit after 4 months was because I didn't take the training because that was something I wanted to do long term I wanted a learning experience first. Now that I am a nurse I respect their work and I think some of the best care pt's get are from nurses who were cna's first and climbed the ladder to LPN or RN. I look at it this way no day is promised to any one. Today you are perfectly fine but tomorrow an accident or anything can happen and you the nurse are now the pt. and you will want someone to respect you in your condition. On the brighter side I did home health and they have PCA'S for the smaller stuff. Also clinics or maybe u can try something different like nurse consulting for law firms they pay really well and also I did correctional nursing this will be good too for you. good luck.

...am I right in trying to understand that you're fine with wiping lady partss and the such but you don't want to wipe the butt? In all honesty, while I'm not a nurse yet (I have babysat for over four and a half years and just finished a CNA class), I'd be a lot more comfortable wiping the back then the front. Poop is poop. Everyone has it.

I hope your nurse doesn't feel the same way when it comes your time to grow old gracefully.

let's see. I have a bachelor's degree in education. I left that job to pursue nursing and to help my husband pay the bills, I've taken a job as a CNA until I graduate from my ASN program. I don't consider myself too smart to wipe butts. In clinicals when I cleaned up patients, they thank me are are so happy that someone took care of their mess. They don't care who cleans them up, whether it's the nurse, the patient care tech, the student nurse, etc. It makes my patients feel better when they are cleaned up. Keeping the patient clean actually prevents skin breakdown and infection and is part of a nurse's job. Luckily we get to delegate that job sometimes. Anything that is in the realm of a CNA's job is also included in the job description of an educated RN. If the CNA or Patient Care Tech is unavailable and it has to be done, the RN better do it. Please find out what the scope of practice for your desired profession is before you waste time in nursing school. I hate, hate, hate vomit, but it's one of those things that the more I'm exposed to it, the more comfortable I'll get.

I think you answered your own question right there.

I hate to break it to you but wiping ass is part of the job. Get over it. Hospitals are not going to hire more nursing assistants because some nurses think that they are above and beyond having to wipe ass. I take pride in wiping ass. I take pride in the fact that when I clean my patient's butt, the skin is dry and clean so urine or feces does not breakdown the skin. If you work in ER, ICU and OR you are gonna see as much feces and urine as blood. Might as well get over it now or find a new job.

Why bother to get your degree here if we are that backwards? Just go back to Asia and do it all there.

My father died on the 9th. We kept him at home as long as we could and I cleaned him and bathed him.

I would love the chance to wipe his behind again.
