In what department do you not wipe the backside?

I hate the fact that nurses do have to wipe asses!

I rather kill myself when i am to wipe my back.

yes you can call me immature.

I am a first year RN program student, in Toronto, Canada and I have attempted a degree already to go to pharm school but failed. Now knowing my student loan is increasing and I myself am aging to be responsible for my own life. yeah i chose nursing.

I think myself compassionate, and am willing to help. I am very approachable. I do easily make friends. However I really don't wanna wipe the asses for my life. I regard myself too smart to wipe back.

I don't know why nurses have to wipe the back here in Canada and US.

In asia, people hire psws to do the job. Nurses are too skilled for that kind of job.

I don't mind being with blood and wounds all the time. i rather prefer blood than urine and excrement.

Can somebody let me know where I am likely to see more of blood? and unlikely see excrement&urine? OR, ICU, emergency rooms are in my mind.

A non-clinical area would be where you belong.

Nursing, unfortunately, is mostly clinicals. Especially when you are new and learning.

Sorry.

I will be graduating from nursing school in December and while I can't say it has been the most pleasant duty during clinicals I certainly haven't objected. At this point in my education I am actually very excited at the prospect of cleaning someone's bottom because it means that they will be my patient, not my preceptors, and I will be caring for them as a nurse, no longer as a nursing student.

I am truly disgusted by your attitude. Not only is your lack of wanting to care for your patients disappointing, your disrespect for other nurses (and future nurses) is very disheartening as well. I know it's been asked before in this thread but again...why are you in nursing?! If the only reason you are in nursing school is because it is a last resort since pharmacy school did not work out then you are here for the WRONG reason. Please find another career that will make you happier and let someone else with the heart and desire to be a nurse have your position.

I am an RN in Ontario Canada too. Just outside of Toronto by the way.I also have a degree (with honours) a certificate in gerontoloy, and certification from the CNA in Gerontology.

And I wipes asses. While I wipe these asses, I am also assessing: fluid intake - is urine concentrated? Pt may need more fluids. Is is foul smelling - pt may have a UTI. What are the feces like? Constipated? runny? C-diff?? Melena?

What does the coccyx look like - are they developing an ulcer? Or some type of breakdown? Do they need a presciption cream or some other type of skin protection?

Get down off of the high horse sweetie. You are never too good or too smart to provide the most basic of care to your patients.

If you get placed at my hospital, I will teach you this. If you aren't willing to provide basic care, get out of nursing now.

You may rethink your career twice,I wouldnt want a nurse who doesnt want to wipe as$$$$$

yeah maybe I should go back to Asia where they don't tend to wipe the back once I get my degree here.

I will try to change all the policies and standards that nurses do have to wipe the back in future:yeah:

or else I will do something unrelated to wiping. I really see economical benefits towards changing this standard. How come few of current nurses here

don't see these benefits?

I guess for the same reason you say you feel like killing yourself when you have to wipe your own ass. IOW, you sound either like a certified troll, or certifiable in other ways.

Well, definitely stay away from ICU. I think an ICU nurse probably cleans poop everyday - if one of his/her own patients didn't poop that shift, then he/she is probably helping another nurse clean their patient.

Most of us don't see the "benefits" because in holistic nursing cleaning a person is some of the most important time to check for skin breakdown, assess nutrition (stool consistency, mucous, blood etc) and re-evaluate care. Nurses are paid and are legally responsible under their licenses to assess, evaluate and treat the entire person!

Plus, there is nothing quite like pulling a clean sheet and comforter over someone who is bedridden, knowing they are clean, dry and comfortable.

I dont know why nurses who dont want to wipe a$$$$$ go into nursing...waste of spot and energy, aloha!!!!!!!!!!!

Sue,

My deepest condolences to you on your loss. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. God Bless You...:icon_hug:

You are unqualified to be a nurse. Nothing is beneath a nurse when it comes to patient care. Move along. Asia, maybe.

Strange when you talk about other countries. Most countries dont even have CNA's,so what are you talking about...nurses are too skilled to wipe butt...hmmm ok I can recommend you a movie called The EARTH,maybe than you will appreciate the beauty of simple life.Good luck in Asia!!!

I think it is a shame that you have this attitude. I would truly NEVER want a nurse that feels they are "above" taking care of someone's basic needs when they are unable to do it themselves. Normally I do not even respond to posts that are negative like this, but thinking your "too smart":angryfire, I don't think so. Please consider another career choice that does not involve caring for others.
