I have a question about immunizations for the program and for personal knowledge. Apparently I had a hepatitis B vaccine adolescent 2 dose vaccine back in 99. I have not submitted it for compliance yet so do you think that will be approved? Also is this still protecting me to this day? Does anyone know how long it protects? I am 28 now and got this shot when I was 13.
I am old (48) and had to get titers drawn for childhood vax. Make sure they do IGg, NOT IGm. I got a false "not immune" for German measles b/c they did the wrong titer. had to be revaccinated. Already had the Twinrex (hepA and hepB combo) for my CNA cert way before nursing school. Keep your vax records handy, EVERYONE seems to want them LOL. I am starting an online program and have to show proof. ???
I actually had the measles as a child, many decades ago, but I still had to get the vaccine before I could start nursing school. Then I got the hep B series, but my titer came back as "not immune." I went and had the titer repeated, and this time it showed "immune." But my bloodwork showed that I wasn't immune to measles, even though I had actually had them and the shot!

I had pertussis (whooping cough) in 2004 and still had a low titer for it. I was very surprised! I was borderline, but in an acceptable range that I didn't have to get another TDAP done.

Be aware that no matter what your school says, the facilities where students go for clinical can and usually do require proof of titers, and can refuse to allow you to do clinical in their building without an acceptable titer for hep, measles, varicella, or whatever. In season they can also require you to have an influenza vaccine.
