Im from Philippines and planning to take an NCLEX

Published

Im planning to take an NCLEX exam and any idea guys what state is more easier to apply / take NCLEX? I graduated last 2011 and had my license last 2012. I have relatives in New York, and New Jersey. Any State will do as long as it's easier and faster to apply. Thanks much.

You don't apply for the NCLEX. You apply for a nursing license by examination as an internationally educated nurse. If your background and credentials meet the BoN standard you are given authorization to take the NCLEX. Passing is one step in the licensing process.

Easy state is a misnomer. Where do you wish to live & work as a nurse? Apply in that state.

I will add the NCLEX is the NCLEX. It isn't easier in one place over another. What IS more difficult in NY/NJ is getting a job.

There are very few nursing jobs in the NY/NJ metro area. Do you have work rights/green card/citizenship? Do you have a valid , unrestricted social security number ?

I'm not a green card holder. :(

No green card you will not be employable. And most states require a SSN to get a license, there is no state easy to get a license.

H! I'm from Philippines and planning to take an NCLEX exam. I graduated last 2011 and had my license last 2012. Now I'm planning to take NCLEX exam. Any advise please? I haven't processed the application yet for eligibility and I know it'll take around 6 mo's for the ATT to recieve. Right now, I'm still stuck which State is more easier / faster to apply to. I want to make sure everything first because I'm quite afraid if my application will be denied, the registration fee will be forfeited, it's just a waste of money, isn't it? I have relatives in New York and New Jersey by the way. And since I'm a Filipino, one of the requirements of some states is SSN.

1.) Any advice which state is more faster and easier to apply to?

2.) Do I need to have SSN to take NCLEX?

3.) Which State allows to take NCLEX exam without SSN?

4.) Tips for application and registration please.

Thank you in advance guys. It'll really help me to decide and clear my cloudy thoughts about taking NCLEX Exam. Have a nice day! Salamat po! :)

There are foreign educated US citizens and permanent residents here who are having a very difficult time getting licensed. In your situation, your best bet is to try other countries. Right now and in the next 15 years, the United States is not the country to aim for if you are foreign educated and not a legal resident or a USC. Save your hard earned money for something else.

Hi Kabayan!!

To answer your queries directly:

1. Apply for Licensure in the state where you intend to work and plant your roots. Do you have long term plans of working in the US?take this things into consideration.

2. Yes. Most states requires you to have SSN before they will allow you to sit for the exam.

3.Try New York

4.Visit the BON's website where you intend to apply for Licensure for specific requirements and instructions. This website also has threads discussing members experiences. They will help you tremendously. Do your research. GODBLESS YOU AND GOODLUCK!!

1 = No state is any faster or easier. Process in general is the same and takes 4-6 months. Exception is NY who do their own assessment with CGFNS CVS and that can take 6-8 months. CA do their own assessment but still looking at 4-6 months and a lot of International Educated Nurses are struggling to get approval.

2 = Not all states require US SSN with application, some will accept application without but will not issue a license without it.

3 = You have to do your research yourself and as members have said previously better to look at the state you plan on living and working in first.

4 = Take your time and understand the application before starting it.

1.) Easiest to apply they say is Hawaii... no english test and such

2.) NO, not on all states

3.) New York and Florida is one ..... but be warned they will not give you a license number until you have a SSN

4.) Tips.... vary from state to state... so better do your research on your target state ... and make sure your target state is feasible... it is a place you see yourself working hopefully in the long run

Technically per federal mandate all states are to require a valid SSN before issuing any professional license (nursing, accounting or otherwise) some states are implementing faster than others.
