Hi everyone. I'm sorry but I have a very general question to ask. I would like to become a nurse but am having a hard time trying to figure out where to start. I can't do courses online (at least I don't think) and I am most interested in working in a maternity and pediatric ward. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

great suggestion, corvette guy. each school has its own particulars. starting with an advisor is usually one of the first steps.

hi, tiggerbelly! here are some links for you to start out reading for information about nursing.

before you can get into any kind of specialty nursing (maternity, pediatrics) you have to first become a nurse by completing a nursing program to become an lpn or rn. once you've done that you would start looking for a job in one of these areas you are interested in. to find the nursing schools where you live, you can contact your state board of nursing for a list. since you didn't provide any information on what state you lived in, i am unable to get a link for you to your state board of nursing. you can get this information yourself, however, by looking at the very tiptop right of this page and running your mouse over the "links" button. click on "boards of nursing" to get a list of all the state boards of nursing in the u.s. find your state (they are listed alphbetically) and link in. you want to look for "education" links at the specific state board web site that will take you to a list of approved nursing schools. find the schools nearest to you, or ones you would like to go to, and contact them for more specific information about their nursing programs.

Hi Tiggerbelly. Daytonite gave you some great advice. I can't really add to it except to say Welcome, and good luck to you.
