Hello to my fellow Volunteers! Just checkin' in from the "Scenic City" where sonic booms are a frequent occurrence!

Perhaps the Tennessee forum will help us to link up together & deal with some of the nursing issues in our region. It certainly couldn't hurt!

All the best to you & yours!

My goodness, I never would have dreamed Memphis was so well represented on here. I am a fellow Memphian who will be starting at STCC summer 2004 hopefully. How do you all who attend there like it so far ??

There where I go now wanabebabynurse. I have no complaints. I haven't started the nursing program yet though. Still working on prereqs. I have strong faith that I will be starting clinicals Spring 04. Taking the NLN Sep 20th. Why are you waiting till the Summer to start if you don't mind me asking.

Burp, I've heard this too. Although, I went to open house for them about 2 months ago and flat out asked about those issues. I was told that it used to be like that but since they've had a change of personnel, it's better. I already work PRN at ST so going full-time makes sense to me. I may end up in special care or telemetry if the CC class fills up before I can get in. I just need to start working full-time!

sorry, guys about the lateness of my reply. my timewarner has been out for the past week. ughh! i absolutely hate them! :(

i am in my last semester at stcc. it has definately been interesting! ;) my best friend is starting her 2nd semester (ahi/ob). i am currently a nurse intern at the local women's hospital (i am not going to name names, but y'all know which one i am talking about. *lol*). i work in l/d, and i absolutely love it! i am hoping to stay after i graduate. i don't want to work anywhere else.

hey all mempho guys & gals, what about a lunch sometime? i have classes at night & weekend, but i am pretty much free during the week. how about y'all?

i can't wait to get to know all of y'all! take care!

So, is anyone from middle TN?? I work in an ICU unit in a very small town. Has anyone ever heard of Lawrenceburg, TN?? Anyways, I have just started working in this ICU for the first time. Wish me luck!! Hope to meet many other TN RN's. I do have one question though. How are the pay scales in your areas???

Welcome, AuroraRN!

I've most certainly heard of Lawrenceburg. Good luck in the ICU & bless your heart! A few years ago, I worked in the ICU in Jasper, TN. I'd worked at prior to that gig & my what a culture shock! That was an experience, to say the least!

I'm in east Tennessee (Chattanooga) at the teaching hospital in town. Nine years as an RN & earning a bit less than 20 an hour. The scale varies, of course. I'm at least able to pay the mortgage, car, & school notes...and then some! How's the pay where you are? Going agency or prn, if possible, can be one way of increasing take-home pay...though frequently w/o benefits. The benefits are a necessity in our household & mine are better than my DH's.

Hi everyone, I am a NYC transplant here in Tenn. (Actually on the middle Tenn border at Ft. Campbell). I just enrolled at Austin Peay and will be working on my pre-reqs now.

I hope to become a CRNA or a midwife in the future, thats why I decided to go the BSN route.

Hello Dreamon, my parents are also NYC transplants, they moved to TN after they graduated college! Good luck to you; I hope it isn't too much culture shock, my mom has told me stories of her own culture shock. Like, someone told her of a recent snowstorm in TN in which "the cars were covered with snow in two hours!" My mom was thinking it had snowed deep enough in two hours to be above the level of the cars- but it had just snowed about two inches- the cars were covered all right! :D It also took her a while to figure out what the orange "UT" signs all over were about; she couldn't believe it was "just" college football. Good luck to you in your classes; I have heard good things about Austin Peay!

hey everyone! i havent been to this site in a while, and i am glad to see the new state forums!! I am from columbia. i work at MRH. on OB hall . i love it! i graduated in may of 2002. i have been on ob since january 2003. glad to see so many from tn!!

Rayrae, yup they sure do take sports seriously here. And the kids get so many days off! As soon as the snowflakes hit the ground...no school. We RARELY got snow days off in NYC, and it snows so much more there.

The culture shock wasn't too bad because I was in NC for a little while before i got here.

Nashville has about 6 or 7 malls, so that keeps me busy...lol.

Hi. I'm in middle TN. I graduated in May and I'm working in MICU at Vanderbilt. Looking forward to hearing from others in the Nashville area.

Congrats on passing the boards! is a great place to learn! I'm a former Vandy nurse myself. I worked on 9 South '94 - '98. Are the lab folks as attitudinal as I remember them? I worked with them for a while prior to becoming a nurse.

Anyhow, did you attend one of the nursing programs in the Nashville area? I'm a TSU grad.

Welcome & good luck in your first year as a nurse!
