Hello to my fellow Volunteers! Just checkin' in from the "Scenic City" where sonic booms are a frequent occurrence!

Perhaps the Tennessee forum will help us to link up together & deal with some of the nursing issues in our region. It certainly couldn't hurt!

All the best to you & yours!

OHBOY ! Another State I get to weasel into...:imbar ... but I live so close to Tenn. and NC both, it's like they're both "home" ! Plus. DH, all his kids and family are all from Tenn. Right there in the Carthage, Murfreesboro area, too ! :D

OK, I'll bow out now... just had to peek in ! Might stop by to say HI every now and then, if it's ok with you guys ! ;)

Don't worry about it, I understand. I am in Memphis right on the state border of Mississippi and Arkansas both. I have already checked out those state forums myself.

Newly minted grad in the Music City here. I'm hoping to work in the pods at St. Thomas. Want to put my time in before working as a NP

Good for you, Bonnie Blue! Kudos on the MSN from ! I worked at Vandy for 10 1/2 years...3 1/2 of them as an RN. Great place to learn!

I'd love to hear about your grad school experience...I'm getting ready to start in on my FNP myself.

Checking in from East Tennessee. It looks like I may be the only one so far. I work home health/hospice part time/prn in a rural part of the state and love it (most days). What does the nursing shortage look like in other parts of Tennessee?

Hi, Traveler! What part of East TN are you in? I am in the upper NE part. I used to do home health/hospice here but got into parish nsg and instructing nsg students.

nashville rn here ... word of advice for bonnie blue, stay away from st thomas as a new grad. the pods are a rough place for a experinced rn let alone new grad . they wont let you work there until you have some time in . the rns in the pods kill their young so watch your back. i started at baptist 4 yrs ago and worked there full time for 3 yrs. nice place to start... i do only agency work now and wouldnt go back anywhere full time for all the tea in china! ive been about everywhere in nashville and in my opion, baptist and southern hills are the best units for a new grad.

Lyn,

I am in SE Tenn. Southern end of Monroe County. What is parish nsg?

Traveler,

I'm in Hamilton Co. You're in a beautiful area!

Parish nursing is nursing, usually through a church community. It is seen more often (here at least) among Catholic Churches. However, in this county, a Seventh-Day Adventist Church also has an active parish nursing programs. One of the hospitals in Chattanooga has a parish nursing program that offers CEUs.

I do parish nsg. in a Presbyterian church (20 hours a week). I do alot of health education, BP clinics, and make home and hospital visits. It is very wellness-oriented and I work with all age groups.

I miss hospice, sometimes, though :)

My goodness, I never would have dreamed Memphis was so well represented on here. I am a fellow Memphian who will be starting at STCC summer 2004 hopefully. How do you all who attend there like it so far ??

I can't believe how many Memphis people there are here!!! I'm in my junior year at UTM in Martin (rural northwest TN). I'm currently stuck in major Med Surg anxiety!!!! :o

 Add another Memphis nurse. What a great way to keep updated and involved in TN issues.:nurse:
