If us nurses could invent something, what would we choose?

Published

I'm currently in school working on my BSN. For one of my classes I was asked to come up with an invention, and I wanted to make it medical related since I am a nurse. I know we've all said 100 times, "I wish we had this", or "I wish we had that". So, what could we invent to make our job easier and a time saver for us?

Innovative ways to keep frail dependent elders in their homes and out of exorbitantly expensive nursing homes.

Ostomy bag with a slide mechanism for easy emptying. And a rolling bed mattress (like a conveyor belt from head to toe) so you could boost someone with the push of a button - no muscles required.

A holding device filled with a gel like substance for intubated patients. I picture that they would be suspended in there so there would be no skin breakdown

waterproof scrubs

or maybe they do exist already? :o

Pet groomer clothes are water resistant/water proof. Hot though. :)

How about transdermal patches for every drug/medication?

Some type of collar they all wear and admin. a "little" jolt every time they say something stupid or treat a nurse like a ***.

I thought about inventing a pill that cures a hangover. We all know that hangovers are electrolyte imbalances so why isn't their a pill that quickly replenishes them? Just take with a 8oz glass of water and viola! And add a little ibuprofen to it as well for the headache.

Then you've never heard of 1st year residents infusing banana bags in themselves on Sunday morning...

:thankya:Yes, actually, there is this amazing stuff called "never wet". It's a super-hydrophobic substance that completely blocks water. Right now it's a spray or liquid, but manufactured clothing is coming. It's not like anything previous. It's made with carbon nano-tubes, same thing that was used to make a real invisibility cloak, which they are testing on spy planes. Google it, I'm sorry I don't know how to link. Amazing times were living in!:nurse:

It is my understanding that a hangover is nothing more than dehydration to the point that the Krebs cycle is interrupted. If you drank a couple of glasses of water before you went to bed, and when you got up to get rid of it, the hangover would be greatly reduced.

ok, this is going to show just how much scifi movies i watch. anyone remember starship troopers, the icu tank they had rico suspended in while he was recovering as well as that knifty tissue knitter. no skin breakdown as you are well "floating" and the tissue knitter cuts wound healing to minutes or hours/days not weeks/months.

of course taking the patient out of said tank would be interesting.
