If you can't pass the NCLEX after three attempts....LVN license only!

Nurses General Nursing

I just read in another thread that some Boards of nursing are allowing multiple attempts at taking the NCLEX exam. Is this true? If so, this is ridiculous! If we are trying to elevate the profession by requiring a minimum BSN to practice, then why are we allowing multiple attempts at taking the NCLEX? No reputable profession would allow this. If you can't pass it after three attempts then you shouldn't be allowed to practice as an RN. Boards of nursing should grant them an LVN license only!

So you make up the rules? Where did you get "three attempts" from? Is that a statistic you can back up with data to show a difference in patient outcomes? You could do research on it. I passed the first time. What difference does it make? I don't ask nurses how many times they took the NCLEX.

And why an LVN license? Do you have evidence supporting a REASON for this? Heck why not give them a CDL license. Are you a nurse? Because any nurse would know that ASSUMING things is not what we do. Evidence based practice. No "reputable" profession would allow this. Examples please? And what makes them "reputable"?

I passed the 1st time! And my schools pass rates are high. Top in the state but other than THAT like I said nothing was like the NCLEX. Classmates agreed. I still do not believe you should be given three tries. Sorry. Not sorry. And for whoever said they took it more than once.. What if they said you had to pass it on the first try? I just feel alot of you are stating that fact bc you haven't experienced not passing. Like I said I know many GREAT nurses who are better nurses than ppl who passed on the first try.

I passed because I answered enough questions correctly to demonstrate minimum competency. Comprehension is how I passed the first try. The test wasn't so difficult that it's impossible to pass.

Take the loss. I worked hard to get the knowledge and I trusted that I would pass and so it is.

I passed the first time too! Whoop dee doo! Doesn't mean we are any smarter or better than ppl who didn't! I said ppl test differently.. As previously stated.

Have you seen the current post where a nurse has been fired 3 times in 4 years? What are the odds that this is someone who had to take the NCLEX 3, 4, or 5 times?

Food for thought....

Nurses have been fired who have passed the first time -_- the point you are making?

There is so much wrong with this tirade I don't even know where to begin. I haven't seen anyone "on a high horse" here. And "blessed" to pass? Let's keep religion out of this discussion. Take a deep breath and try to get your emotions under control. Then work really hard and try to pass the second time.

I passed the FIRST TIME! Look at you assuming I did not pass the first time! I'm advocating for others who DID NOT! And I will keep religion where I want it!

And SORRY THAT I BELIEVE IN RELIGION AND that you all do not give God any credit in your achievements! I studied hard and I passed my NCLEX the first time, but I still think that is wrong to say just 3 times. AT the end of the day.. I guess that is why you all don't make the rules and you can take it more than 3 times. Maybe a suggestion of some sort of remediation would be a good ideal, but telling ppl to just throw their degree away. -_- sorry I just dnt agree with that. We can agree to disagree. :)

Ummmm, have no intent to rile you up. But no one here has so much as expressed an opinion that you did or did not pass the NCLEX on your 1st, 2nd or 3rd try.

Perhaps this thread has run its course?

It was implied on a couple of the post. I'm not riled up.. I just know some great nurses that took a little time. :) All smiles over here.

What's a "ppl"? What is "bc"?

Somehow, your posts haven't convinced me that you know how to differentiate a "GREAT" nurse or a better nurse that a "ppl" (whatever that is) who passed on the first try.

And while I congratulate you on passing the first time, I'm not impressed with the clarity or professionalism of your writing, either. This post is not all that clear.
