If you are not a nurse, do NOT use the title, please

I'm starting a blanket thread, rather than doing individual posts like I have been the last few days, because this might get some people's attention better.

The word "Nurse" is a legally protected title in most states (as well as "LVN/LPN", and "RN"). The law was written to prevent people who are NOT nurses from using those titles.

Beyond that, if you are posting ON THIS WEBSITE, AllNurses.com has a clear Terms of Service posted that you agreed to when registering for a username. To put it simply, you may not use the word "Nurse" or "RN" or "LPN" unless you hold an active LICENSE for one of those titles.

Usernames such as Nurse2Be, or FutureRN, or HopeToBeLVN are obviously not in violation of the TOS, as it is clear that the member is not misrepresenting himself or herself as a current nurse.

If you are someone who has mistakenly registered an incorrect username, please take the time to CHANGE IT. There are many members here who will be angry with seeing your fraudulent use of the title; some will be nice about it and ask you politely to change it (as I am doing) and some will be far less pleasant....and both will be right.

CNAs, MAs, who are using the word Nurse in your name....please stop. Students, post-students who have yet to pass the NCLEX, please do not use a title you have not earned.

You wouldn't call yourself Doctor Sally (I don't think?) if you aren't a doctor. Please give Nurses the same consideration.

Thank you.

And yet you keep engaging them...

Ok Ok im done... Just for fun

Wow, such anger & hate!!! Didn't know adding a user name to "claim" the status you are striving for was such an offense. I definitely wasn't trying to claim or offend which is why I put student. I will change mine out of respect to the profession.

I don't think it's "such an offense," however when you register it quite clearly tells you not to use titles you haven't earned like "nurse," "RN," etc. I'm big on following instructions.

I was shown this site by a fellow student nurse & didn't realize there were rules but I have no problem adhering to policies. I thought it was a site for fellow students & nurses to help each other & confer not chastise. Thanks for your dedication & have a pleasant day.

Can I say the same thing about EXPERIENCE? I love seeing a post about prenursing courses by someone who has "10 year(s) experience".

I have a ton of other medical experience, but I won't post my experience until it is RN experience. Isn't that what is meant by experience on a nursing site?

I thought it was only in some states that nursing was a legally protected title

This forum is read worldwide, not to mention in all 50 states. If you aren't a nurse, don't use the title "nurse".

No one is chastising; stating to follow the rules may seem "chastising" to you perhaps, but this was something when signing up for a social website you needed to do: read the terms of service when signing up so there are no "surprises", especially when it's available; you are agreeing to adhere to the TOS when you sign up.

I agree-- you'd think it was implied, but considering some folks here are having difficulty grasping the importance of the clearly-written terms of service, I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Who are you and where did you come from?? Go away! This thread is done..

Ah, dang it. I finally reach the last page of this thread and you declare this? Right before I was about to write my manifesto (I need to say "Wright Brothers" so I can have 3 homophones in one sentence! :D).

Oh, we have back up security do we? I hope allnurses™ sends their name security checker and her backup a nice fat paycheck for all their support.

And NO I am not a nurse! Im so proud to say im a student NURSE and ill use that title until the day im licensed..

I just thought it was comical this was posted 4-5x. I always look for uplifting positive things on this site and happened to come across this blog of negativity several times so I figured I comment. No offense to anyone, continue saving lives rather you're a cna, ma, LPN/lvn, RN, pa, np, MD or janitor for all I care.

Have a marvelous day my fellow life-savers :)

There are plenty of positive and uplifting things on this site. But it IS offensive to see folks using the title "nurse" when they haven't earned it. I'm glad you changed you user name.

It'd only be right to write your manifesto--a rite of passage, perhaps--and I'm sure the Wrights would be right proud.

Sorry but I don't take social sites as serious as others do. Good day!

If you cannot respect the terms of service when it comes to using a particular site, perhaps you oughtn't use it at all.

Also, real name + photo = bad idea.
