I think making over 100k a year is more the exception than the rule depending on the area of the country. I work 40 hours a week in a large university hospital in a metropolitan area in the mid-west. I've been a nurse for a little over 22 years. My annual income is more in the 70's than the 100's. I have worked in many specialty areas. My current job is my highest paying. I would wager a guess that most of the people who actually are making 100k+ are working many hours of overtime or more than one job. There is a cost to working like that that I am unwilling to pay. It would be more accurate for you to get more specific answers from nurses who live in your area. 100k means more in the mid-west than it does in California.
Nurses who make 100k a year are either NPs or CRNAs. If it's a staff nurse, well then they must be working a load of OT. I have a co-worker who made 100k per year but he worked in Cali and worked tons of OT plus he got paid more because the cost of living is higher.
I work in a big city hospital and I work a lot of OT and I have never made 100k per year. The most 75k.

I know someone, she is in my family, as a associates degree in early education or something like that...went to school years ago to be a RN...ADN...Now, just been hired to run a Rehab Unit (IN, OUT, CARDIAC) and makes 101,*** (is salaried) DOes not have a Bachleors...One thing that I can tell you is that its ALL about the connections. This family member has gotten a job through a peep knowing a peep, and that peep called her up and handed over a job. Yes, she worked home health, LTC, and Rehabs her whole like as either a nurse or a CNA, but face it..experience is the KEY!
My close friend who is an ER nurse in a suburban hospital makes over $100K ONLY because she works the night-shift weekend program and picks up a bunch of night shifts during the week which puts her at approximately 60 hours per week.
I doubt any bedside staff RN (no matter what education level or years of experience) could make close to that only working 40 hours per week.
100 k by itself is no longer considered awesome financial compensation. I do almost 80 without any OT, I have been nursing only 2 years. But I know quite a few nurses who all do a bit over 100 k with actually very little on no OT.
Again, you must take into consideration what part of the country you are talking about. In the mid-west 100k is not likely without a lot of OT. I do agree that 100k is not awesome financial compensation for what nursing requires!!!

:yeah:What is your specialty?
how long have you been an RN?
and how many years have you been working?
Do you have a BSN or ADN?
