If you FAIL a semester, how many chances do you get to finish?

Published

Im wondering how your school works....if you are in a 2 year RN program, how many times can you fail a semester before they kick you out of the program for good?

Failing at my school is anything below a 76% and during the program you can fail two classes and wait for an opening and take the class again, but after the second time, you're out. Clinical, skills competency, simulation, etc are all pass/fail, so if you fail, you fail the class that the clinical, simulation, skills competency, etc was for.

In my program, you're allowed to fail one clinical and one class, but of course if you have a class that has a lecture/clinical/lab component and you fail any one of those components, you have to repeat the class in it's entirety. After that you are supposedly out for at least 5 years, but I know students who have jumped through hoops and have failed more than one clinical & one class and were still in the program...but then finally they failed, the school had it with and decided to give them no more chances and they were kicked out for good.

In both of my programs, you can fail only once. Fail again--either the same class or a different class--and you're out.

Also, depending on the class and where you are in the program, you may have to wait up to a year to retake it.

If you fail a nursing class, they may let you back in. And if they do accept you back in, you need a B to pass the class. This can only happen with one class in the whole program.

We're also allowed to drop one class throughout the whole program. If we drop it, we still need a C to pass though. So it's better to drop if you are failing during midterm than to pull through the course, fail, need to retake it, if they let you, and get a B.

77% is passing here. You can fail 3 times. After that you have to start over from the beginning!

ONCE!

if u fail once, u can re-take it, but after that u can never fail again!

so it's good, up until now (i'm in 2nd sem) i haven't failed yet, i think i can make it :)

For my school, you may repeat a class or a lab once. Anymore than that, and you're out. It hasn't been a big problem though. Our cohort has only lost about 5 people due to failing out of 60.

I wish I had researched my school a little better before I entered the program. They apparently have a HUGE fail out rate. Maybe thats why theyre not accredited?? I think they lost 12. In semester one, we lost about 10 people and semester 3 is supposively the killer when they are guaranteed to lose about 7 or so. Hate my program.

We started off with 50, we are in 4th semester now and I think have lost around 18 total (we have gained new students each semester as well)since first semester. This seems to be pretty average with our program. 77% is passing and they have a really high NCLEX pass rate.

If you fail a semester, you only get 1 chance to repeat it. After that if you fail another semester, you would be dismissed.

In our school, you are allowed to repeat a semester once during the following year. You also need to do some type of remediation before you are allowed back to re-take the course. If you fail again, you are out of luck...although I've heard of some students reapplying 3 years after failing and being accepted again.

At my school anything below an 80% is failing. You can fail/withdraw twice before being dismissed but this also includes major pre-req course before you even start the program. I just take it semester by semester and I am already counting down this semester lol I do think you have to do some sort of appeal to re-take the course or something but I am attempting to have to know as little about this as possible.
