If you could do it all over again, would you choose nursing as your career?

Talking to alot of the nurses in my hospital, if they knew then what the know now, they would not be nurses. I was a bit suprised to hear this. Anybody else feel this way?

Yeah, it's something to do until Hugh Hefner kicks. Then I want his job. Wouldn't mind Donald Trumps job as long as I can keep my charm and don't have to wear a beaver on my head.

No way. I would stay as far away from any career in healthcare as I could get.

Hmm, if I could do it all over....I don't regret being a nurse. I've been at it 34 years and it's been a good profession for me. But if I had to chose *today* to be a nurse or not? No. In today's market, I would not be a nurse. Nursing has provided me a good income and mostly good experiences. But it also has given me severe foot & ankle problems, 2 sleep disorders, and cyclical depression. If I were young and choosing a career, I would not choose nursing. I have not encouraged my DD18 to be a nurse. She plans to major in Mass Media. Frankly, I think it will be easier to work in the film industry than in healthcare.

Yes, as of right now. No 2 out of 3 days

Nope, I would have been an oral surgeon.

I love what I do as a nurse, when it comes to pt care, just not the politics of nursing. It is a demanding, intense field. Maybe because of the level of responsibility we have, or maybe those who think we have no responsibility at all and are just trained monkeys. I havent decided which of those is true that makes it so intense. I wish I'd stuck with my original goal to go into vetrinary medicine. I used to ride and show horses.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Absolutely! Nurses inspired me to go into the field. What they did, hasn't changed one bit. A shout out to Kay and Kay! The best people put in my life, at that particular time. Will love them for life! Peace!

I think about this all the time. In many ways, yes. I love being a nurse. I can't imagine doing anything else. However, sometimes I think maybe... just maybe... if I had gone down another path. Who knows where I would have ended up? There are so many options and I don't think I really considered ALL of them. I am going to make sure my kids know that they can do anything they want. I wasn't really taught about different fields/areas growing up. I just want my kids to learn about all the different careers that are out there and that they can choose anything. If it's nursing, OK. As long as they know they can be ANYTHING they want if they put their minds to it. I never was told that and it's true.

Absolutely not. But it will do for now, until other opportunities arise(keeping my fingers crossed!)

no i would not & this was my 2nd career so I didn't go into it blindly. Many years ago I wanted to become an MD but I realize they are just as frustrated overall as many nurses. If they aren't a neuro, cardiac or plastic surgeon they too get crapped on & fired easily for not meeting unrealistic expectations and "production quotas." They are burning out at the speed of light just like nurses. I'm at a stage where I would rather work at Circle K then to be anywhere near healthcare in any capacity. Its all about doing more with less resources & sicker patients. Even though that same expectation has happened in other fields its horrific in healthcare because people's lives and quality of life are at stake. Personally I would not encourage anyone to become a nurse, CNA or MD. Far as I'm concerned the CEO's & bean counters can go hire those trained monkeys they're always threatening everyone with to do all of the above jobs.

No I would have been a vet
