I don't want to give up on nursing....west cost university :(

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I wanted to be a nurse for over 15 years. I'm a cna who finally got a liberal arts degree last year in May. I switched my majors due to many hours working nearly daily as a low wage cna with rent ect. I withdrew from dcccd A&P classes twice in the year 2014....

I learned recently that when trying to apply at Dallas nursing institute for RN....instead of puting W they put F twice! I called the dean...well was told thats who I'm suppose to talk to and she wants me to prove I withdrew in the year 2014......after hanging up I couldn't help, but to cry. No Rn problem will accept me....except West cost university....which cost 6 figures.

Im low income,no family,no boyfriend or husband,no friends who could help....just me myself and I.

I don't know what else to do.

Any advice and no I don't have a interest in lvn.

I'm hearing at west coast you have to come up with monthly payments...there have been times I can't feed myself due to high rent. I want to be a nurse so badly,but...

Six figures for an RN should be illegal that’s insane. You’d be much wiser to relocate to an area that you can do an RN without so much competition.

Don't be so quick to dismiss the LVN license. Many still use an LVN background in order to enter RN school through an LVN to RN bridge program. Most such programs place the LVNs in an advanced standing from those who enter the generic RN program, so it takes less time and costs less.

I agree it should be illegal. I called another university in another state...same issue stupid el centro college labeled Fs when it should be Ws.

This is true, but I was told even if I was a lvn they still wouldn't let me be a Rn.

Who told you that? That statement on face value does not make sense. Assume you mean that a nursing program told you they would not admit you to their RN program based on being an LVN. In that case, go to the next program down the road. There are still many LVN to RN bridge programs around. Once you get an LVN license, the two F's become a moot point for most programs. You probably will have to repeat A&P by that point anyway, because of the recency rule. 2014 grades are not going to cut it when applying after 2019. Look around and find a program that will give you the means to start the clock ticking again.

Don't talk to the dean, go to your admissions office, and get answers to why it's an F instead of a W.

But nothing is impossible. Get your classes you need and apply for schools (Having A&P already completed is a very common prerequisite for getting into a school). So many people get accepted into good nursing schools with way less than perfect histories. I'm in mine after failing completely out of two colleges. See what you can do. Call other community colleges and see what they can do about you getting a fresh start.

Where do you live? You could always start over with in Associates program somewhere that you can work as an RN easily with just in ADN. You don’t have to tell anyone that you’ve gone anywhere before if you don’t want them to see your record and aren’t trying to transfer. Not the funnest option, but an option.

LVN is a great start- affordable and you can make a living wage while pursuing RN. AVOID West Coast- you'll thank yourself when you are not under a crushing load of student loan debt for the rest of your life.

Actually a lot of schools ask for all prior transcripts from all institutions attended. Purposely hiding this information is considered grounds for dismissal.

Otherwise, i agree with everything. LPN and ADN programs are great to get your foot in the door. And a lot of programs are much more forgiving than you would expect them to be.

I think you need to talk to your school counselor or admission and get this figured out. If they gave you an F then you should be able to retake the class to replace that F. A W stays on your record, but you can replace that F with a better grade.

When you drop using econnect you should have an email stating that you dropped the class. This email will have a timestamp that would provide proof that you dropped these classes BEFORE the drop date. If you dropped at the business office, they would have given you a receipt, which would have the same info and maybe your section number on it. If you don't have these receipts, and you know you withdrew before the drop date, you should check with the business office see what they have on file for you. If you didn't drop before the drop date, it is fair that they gave you the F's because you did not turn in course work. I am an RN student at El Centro and they send reminders via email and in the syllabi, and they have posters around the school that says what the drop date is. My advice is to retake A&P I - that is a pre-req to get into the RN program. The only other pre-reqs are Eng I and Intro to Psych. If you already have those done just try reapplying to the RN program. Also, caliotter3 is right you can use the LVN program to bridge to RN. You can also earn higher wages working as an LVN rather than CNA while you bridge to RN. I'm not sure of what the pre-reqs are for LVN but it can't be much different. Good luck to you. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
