Last night we had full staffing for our censes. A RN, LPN and an NA for 16 is what we are allowed.(The three of us have worked together many nights and function like a well oiled machine) The night supervisor wanted to take the LPN and give me an agency RN in her place. Turns out another unit was short that night but RN on that unit did not want to work with an agency nurse. I said BALONEY and refused to make the switch. :angryfire By the way I called my nurse manager and she backed me up on my refusal.(No way she is paying agency staff when her shift is covered.) Where do people get the nerve to come up with this stuff? Many, many times I work with agency staff(and darn glad I am to see them when they arrive) it never occured to me to try and pawn them off on other units.

Oramar,
You were right in what you did. I congratulate you for saying "NO"!

Certainly it's a much better idea to have unfamiliar staff on TWO units instead of one .
What are people thinking?
Good job on standing up. :) I also agree wholeheartedly re: the budget thing.

Good call, the nursing supervisor and the other unit were being unreasonable, not you! :)

They were just testing you. Sometimes when another unit or person gets all whiney they so who they can get to make that nurse happy and they were trying you.
Kudos to you for standing up for yourself!
