I'm sorry that you are feeling that you failed, but take heart; so many people walk out of the testing center feeling like they've failed. It's not over until it's over. Hang in there, and I hope you get your results soon!

STOP doing this to ourselves! I too took the NCLEX this week and am sure I failed I had 77 questions then blink off it went. I too studied VERY hard did over 2300 questions, did the Kaplan review and passed the readiness test and kept on answering questions ( the analysis and applications questions) kept taking the Qbank tests and scored 65-67% did Lippincott and did 88%....and yet I am sure I failed.... I am so dissapointed that I havent even told my co workers at the hospital I took the test. ( I work as a LPN) I have dissapointed EVERYONE, my family my co workers and most of all ME........ Hi I understand you completely! I took the NCLEX on the 17th, luckily I am in NY, a "Quick Results" state, and I passed. I had 190 questions, NO SELECT ALL THAT APPLY QUESTIONS WHATSOEVER, and that made me REALLY nervous, because I heard the "select all" questions were considered harder. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU HEAR!! Thats another reason why I was so nervous during the tests because I was basing my NCLEX test on what other people's experiences with this test. NCLEX is designed to help you pass. Trust me, I couldn't eat or sleep the 2 days I had to wait, I'm praying for you, I could never imagine having to wait a month for my results. Good luck and I know you did well!

There are definitely many myths circulating about the NCLEX. One of the biggest myths surrounds trying to predict pass/fail based on the number of questions. Another myth has to do with trying to predict pass/fail based on getting questions of a certain format.

The truth is that you cannot determine a pass or fail result simply by looking at the number of questions. People pass and fail at all numbers (for RN, between 75 and 265 and for PN, between 85 and 205).

Similarly, you cannot say that someone passed or failed simply based on the presence or absence of certain question types. Some people get math, some get no math. Some get lots of meds, some get very few. Some get a bunch of select-all-that-apply, some don't. Each of these categories of people could still pass or fail.

I know it's hard to wait on results and not try to analyze, but there really isn't a lot we can tell from a person's own interpretation of their exam. My advice: Study your hardest for the exam, get a good night's sleep before the test, go do your best, and keep your fingers crossed.

Hang in there. I took the NCLEX in 1997 and thought for sure that when the computer shut off after the 75th question that I failed for sure. I drove home (2 hours) crying all of the way. (I took the test where I would not know anyone) The day that the results were in the mail, I stood in the middle of the road jumping up and down and screaming (I passed!!) and all of my neighbors came outside to see what was going on and we all had a good laugh (I am glad that no one got this on video - lol). I am praying for you and can't wait to congratulate you. :biere:

i am very sympathetic towards you... the test always puts disbelief in new nurses. be confident (easier said than done). why such a long wait to find out???? i am a new nurse and just passed the nclex-rn in october of last year. i must say i felt just like you do when it "cut me off" at 76 questions. i bet you did fine and if not just take it again...i had a doctor ask me a question one day while i was waiting on my results. he said "what is the difference in a nurse who takes the test once and one that has to take it more than once?" an rn..... this put a smile on my face and made me feel better, so maybe it will you too....

Count yourself lucky that you ONLY had 2 SATA's. I had a disproportionate amount of them relative to the 75 questions I had when it shut off. I didn't even realize I was at the 75 mark and I assumed on the majority of them that they were wrong. The last one though, I felt pretty good about. The sucky part is that I didn't feel clueless on all the options, I was very sure on some but darnit if there wasn't one that was just beyond my reach to choose from.

It just doesn't seem fair to have that many, which seem so much harder to pass, when others aren't getting those. My drugs were often within the sata's. Not just "drug - pick a,b,c,d", it was drug, then select all that apply to the drug, like crap!

I thought the material was familiar and I thought the drug names weren't unfamiliar but what made it hard was the precision you had to have for the select all that apply. I didn't have one OB question but had many, many on endocrine and electrolytes but some were an endocrine condition and select all that apply and then some were hidden within a question or an electrolyte understanding within a condition. For many of the questions, I had to go through 3 to 4 logic-it-out steps to get to an answer.

You know, I prayed, "Dear God, give me test questions I feel strong in today...like the endocrine system." HA - that teaches me to pray so specifically! I felt good about it until it was always in a select-all-that-applies. Next time, I will pray, "Please God, give me test questions I can answer and please don't let them be in SATA format."

To summarize it though, I did my best. I studied like crazy. Someone gave me the Mark Klemek book 2 days before my test and I knew the majority of the book. I knew those nclex books inside and out but THIS test was like an iq test - testing whether you can logic out safety - geesh - even the infection control was sata and I found that hard - crap - but will I feel BAD if I fail? Nope. No one walks out of that test feeling smug. I thought it was very challenging and I don't want to do it again but I don't feel bad about myself. I thought I would - but I don't. I did my best.

If I fail, I'm taking a break. I thought I dug my heels in pretty good. A lot of what they tell you for test-taking tips aren't really applicable to many of those. The logic for prioritization is too complex to even attempt to guide someone. Oh Lord, I'm taking a nap!!!!!!!
