Will I have to retire at 65, or can I work longer?
Dear Curious; Dont even think about trading in your scrubs for a "housedress". I work in Nevada at a hospital that is three years old, on my unit "medical oncology" there are two wonderful nurses; one is 78 and one is 75. The 78 year old is a widow, drives 40 miles each way to work on snowy roads inthe winter. We work 12 hour shifts, and she has no problem. Let the youngsters live life and work as a nurse, do the family thing and make it all work, they will catch up with us....... I too entered nursing school at 40, that was 16 years ago, i was the oldest in my class and had less trouble than many 20 year olds. If this is what you want to do there will be jobs for you until your ready to quit..... Good luck Sungoddess:yeah:

The Nightmare is OVER
:mortarboard:I finally had the NERVE to go to pearsonvue and check on my NCLEX RN test results. took the test friday 13th.....a good omen?????? The computer stoped at question 77 and I sank, wondering WHY???? did't I even get a chance to prove that I knew this stuff,,, Well.......I paid my $7.95 and there it was "pass" Oh My Goddess..... I couldn't believe it........ I called my nurse manager and told her that I am an RN... I was the last LPN in our department, and I wanted this so bad..... Kaplan review I love you...... It's OVER....... now on to my life:jester:Bellaluna

What have other nurses done that have freaked you out?
:uhoh21: Here's one I was fairly new at a LTC facility I heard a patient screaming in her room, there was another LPN in the room, the screaming continued, I knocked and entered the room asked "can I help?".... The LPN stated " everything is ok I am taking out these staples on her hip and she is screaming..... I observed the LPN for a moment, and told her that you are removing the staples with scissors and NOT the staple remover..... The staples were NOT poped open, just pulled through the poor patients skin....OUCH!!! Bellaluna

CPNE Failure
I did the Excelsior LPN-RN program, and also did not pass the first CPNE....... it is OK other than a lot of $$$$ to do it again. Think this way; now you know exactly what is expected of you....... Until you actually do it you are not really sure how this works, so you now have an advanage.... Get yourself prepared. Make a grid that you will use for patient care and stick to it, do NOTHING extra, ( you dont get points for it and it just takes up that time). as far as labs you know know how that works also, practice at home..... get an IV bag, hang it on your curtain rod and use that, get a syringe and use an orange for your push, dont forget to practice pushing 1-3ml over 1 minute , just keep doing it. when you draw up the med draw extra you can squirt it out in that trash can in front of you, and give that syringe a HARD flick with your pen or on the table to get the air to the top. YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO NOW, and you can do it the second time.... Anxiety was the worse enemy.... I re tested in PLANO TX and they were super, really wanting us to do well. I feel for you, been there did that. I could tell you a more stressfull experience , but thats another story...good luck Bellaluna

Anyone working at Washoe Medical Center?
Hi there are PLENTY of jobs for RN's in the RENO area...... Washoe Med just changed names and now is Renown Health Care, same old everything else, big add ons to this medical center. There is also St. Marys Hospital in Reno ( good reputation) and Northern Nevada Med Center in Sparks ( about 5 miles away) Northern Nevada pays very good bonus.... and has great team work on all floors.. No I dont work there, I work at a new medical center in CarsonCity on the medical oncology floor. I do know that RENO is very short of nurses. Oh yeah we also have the VA hospital, good benefits but takes a long time to get hired. (worked there also)... Hope this helps you........Bellaluna:biggringi

Sitting on pins and needles
I know JUST how you feel I took my exam on Friday the 13th, (because I just knew I could do it this time , 2nd try) and here I am waiting. I had 77 questions so I am sure I did not pass, on the other hand I cant believe that I would miss 30 questions. I HATE THIS!!! I studied so very hard, went to the Kaplan review and completed over 2300 questions, also my readiness test were within the "pass" range. I am so embarassed that I have not even told ONE person at work that I re tested, because everyone at work says" oh you will pass, your such a good nurse" ( I am a LPN). But I just dont feel good about it, I am even afraid to look on line for the results on Tuesday. WHY oh WHY is this the way we have to become RN's?????? Right now I just want to sleep in my closet with a favorite blanket.... SO you are NOT ALONE in your anxiety or fear...... I ask for blessings for each of us, we want to do this job and it is so difficult to get there....We are worthy:jester: Bellaluna

How many of you scored >900 on HESI, didn't pass NCLEX the first time
Have not taken HESI, did the NCLEX on friday 13th, computer shut off on 77...I too did Kaplan Review and passed the "readiness test" with" obove boarderline?" and Qbank questions ( the analysis and application) with 65-67% and Kaplan says go take the test I did, and I feel like I did not pass it????? I also did some Lippincott tests and did 85-88% so I felt I was ready, with all of that and having completed over 2300 Qbank questions I was hoping for a good feeling. I am so down, I didnt even tell my co workers I tested, and now how can I say I failed ( 2nd time)..... So how did you do with the NCLEX??? and how many questions did you get? Bellaluna:rolleyes:

I am so dissapointed that I havent even told my co workers at the hospital I took the test. ( I work as a LPN) I have dissapointed EVERYONE, my family my co workers and most of all ME........ Noc-shift blues
Quit whining, and cout your BLESSINGS.....I am sure they are many. I dont know where you live but in my area there are many nursing jobs open. If you like where you are then stay there and wait for the opening. Try to get you days off scheduled with your honey..... In the real world everything does not always go the way we want it to. However most of the time in life we are right where we neeed to be to understand the lesons of "life".... so RELAX and count your blessings, and give your honey a hug.....Bellaluna
