I Saw that Commerical Again!

Published

There is a commerical for a walk in medicial clinic in my town Its run by an ER doc so he call it an ER. The thing that bugs me is his slogan/motto:

"Don't wait on health care. Let health care wait on you."

He promises that you will receive a warm smile a blanket a wait no longer than 20 minutes. I was so irritated I threw a pillow at the TV. My DH was shocked. What wrong with you? I tried to explain to my techno-geek hubby that the 1st time someone has to wait 21 minutes, there will be he** to pay. That he is creating unrealist expectations and if he got a real emergency, he is still several blocks from a real ER and help.

This is were the entitlement crowd gets their ideas & bal**. This another example of putting the emphasis on the wrong thing. The clinic is next door to McD maybe he got his customer service ideas from them.

Really I LOVE my job but sometimes I don't like parts of it.

Speaking of...

This weekend, we had a pt's daughter ask who "that very plain looking girl is that's always coming around?"...happened to be the 1 tech we have who had worked her tail off to take care of their mother the last 3 12 hour days in a row...which we quickly informed her of. Same daughter wanted to know if anyone had brushed her mother's teeth...uh (I thought), you've been in the room the last 3 days, you mean you haven't brushed them for her? (yes, same tech had brushed the pt's teeth). Oh and the best part...at breakfast, when they brought coffee on the pt's tray, daughter wanted to know if we had "cappucino since mother won't drink just any coffee". Are you kidding me???? This same family would have 3 family members in the room watching while the tech tried to get mother to eat. I just can't stand that :angryfire. Pitch in people! These are your FAMILY we are taking care of, they'd probably prefer a little help from the ones who supposedly love them.

LET HEALTHCARE WAIT ON YOU?????

Like I always say, "R.N. stands for Registered Nurse NOT WAITRESS."

Sooooo...who's going to be waiting on WHOM?

Like it or not, this appears to be the wave of the future for health care in the U.S. These clinics are competing for business from uninsured as well as insured folks and are competing against hospitals. For many, time is a huge factor and if a MD or NP can promise the above, it gives them a competitive edge. They are offerring something that the consumer certainly won't experience within an overcrowded ER.

And IMHO, it's a good thing. Does it upset you because you feel this clinic will creat false expectations for hospitals?

All I can say about that commercial is:

:angryfire :madface: :barf01::barf02:

UGH we had a new ER open at our hospital, and they did something like that and the PG scores have all kinds of"we waited over 30 minutes, you said.." very frustrating to say the leat and the entitlement crowd if you try to explain just get more mad and gives bad PG scores.

UGH management has no clue, and we are the ones who get in trouble for the bad PG scores to boot.:angryfire

Capitalism. If he can actually provide the service advertised, then his clinic will have an edge. If not, word will get around and people are free to go to other places.

Yes but also about Nursing. What I didn't say earlier, is that his name is all over the clinic and his lab coat with MD. But the "nurse" who is handing out the warm smile, blanket etc has no name and no ID as in what kind of nurse she is : CNA, LPN, RN. So it creates a false image about what my job is (handing out blankets, handing you over to the doc) vs reality .

I hear you on this one.

A chain of retail urgent care clinics in my area is advertising with the tag line, "Don't wait! The minute you feel under the weather, see the practitioners at XYZ Clinic."

Not only does it foster unrealistic expectations of health care, it also fosters the generalized wimp factor so prevalent in society today. Masses of people who have been socialized to believe that they are unable to deal with the common cold on their own. :uhoh3:

See the ER thread, "A generation of wimps."

When I am sick, really sick, I need more than a smile and a warm blanket. When I am just feeling under the weather I either tough it out or see my family doc. Either way, this is not the message we as nurses appreciate. Does this place have CNA's or tech's, because it may get busy and the nurse may not feel like smiling.

The CNA's and Tech's might not feel like smiling either . . . . :o

Where does this puritanical attitude that patients and their families are not deserving of comfort and consideration come from? Are nurses that angry with them?

I do not expect to be waited on, but sitting with my child in the ER for 8 hours before he was admitted, I sure appreciated the chair I had to sit in, the vending machines in the waiting room and the odd magazine to look through. The nursing care and respiratory care were top-notch. The doctors very thorough, and that is the reason we were there.

So what if a doctor wants to open his clinic with a little pampering thrown in? If he delivers on his promise, and provides good medical care, he will do fine.
