I received such an odd amount of questions, does this usually mean I failed NCLEX?

Hello, I recently took my NCLEX-RN board examination and I believe I received about 85-89 questions before the exam shut off. Since I received such an odd amount of questions, does this usually mean I've failed the examination. In the past I've barely talked to anyone about the examination. All I've heard of is people receiving 75, or 265 and passing, nothing in the 80s. Thanks a lot everyone.

No, it does not mean you necessarily failed. You can receive ANYWHERE in the range of 75-265 questions until the computer is satisfied that you have either passed or failed the exam.

Does your state offer results within 2 days? In many places, you can go online, pay something like $8 (the price may have gone up, that's how much I paid in 2007) and see if you passed the test 48 hours after taking it.

I think I have seen on here someone say they passed with 190 questions. The number of questions does not indicate a pass or fail, it just means that you were probably skirting the passing line and the computer needed more time to figure out your level. Did you try the Pearson Vue Trick?

You can pass or fail at any number of questions between 75- 265. Don't think too much into it!

I took the NCLEX 8 years ago and I got 209 questions and passed it on the first try. I thought for sure I must have failed it with a number like that, but I didn't.

I have two classmates (just that I know of) that passed with 88 and 90 questions. The actual number of questions means nothing. I was told if you surpass 75 it means you're close to passing, and then it shuts off when you move above the minimum standard or below. I wouldn't read too much into it, but I WOULD (if I were you) try to register for the exam again (the so-called "trick to see if you passed"), supposedly if you failed it lets you pay for the exam again, if not an error message pops up. Everyone in my class who tried it (me included) said it works. It's totally normal to walk out of it thinking you failed. I wanted to throw up for two days, until my name popped up on the BON website. Chin up!! ;-)
