....to know the thought process behind suddenly not vaccinating your children, after they've received everything except their 7th grade immunizations (one of which is a booster to a vaccine that has already been received). It seems to me to be a little....late in the game (??) for lack of a better phrase.
Got a response to an email I sent to a parent with a hard deadline to present vaccination records: "Hi Ms. Keeper, we no longer believe in vaccinations...."
I'm legitimately curious to know "why now?"...
Just an FYI, I'm not bashing anti-vaxxers. I'm fully capable of accepting others with opposing views on vaccines. Just a little confused on the sudden change....just so ya know
New baby? Additional "research?"
The first question any provider will ask you when you have a puncture or other icky wound is "when was your last tetorifice shot?" I usually say that and the parent and I have some kind of reasonable discussion. The refusal may also be that the meningococcal vaccine is challenging now because we mandate it at 7th grade and then colleges insist on having one within the last five years. Ruby_jane junior spends time at a sleep-away camp every year and despite my telling her not to, she shares her frappacinos with everyone. So...I am a big fan of a vaccine that prevents something spit-borne that can damage limbs, but not everyone thinks like me.
The whole vax issue is starting to come up more right now thanks to flu season!
But when it comes to not getting the flu shot, parents are more than happy to tell me the nightmare stories that have led to their kids never getting the flu shot again. (Cue multiple rounds of "My kid got the flu from the flu shot and almost died!")
Oh, and guess who gets to hold "informational sessions" about the flu with parents this fall?
I had a student who received NO vaccinations and had the appropriate forms completed. Then I see one lone Td. Accompanied with the Td paperwork was a discharge paper form saying the student had been cut with a piece of metal.
So... you don't want vaccines unless an potential illness poses a direct threat to your child. Good to know.
Why are you NOT bashing anti vaxxers?
Because I like my head where its at: on my shoulders! plus, bashing them would be like treading water...I can do it, but it would be a whole bunch of no fun and the water would still be there when I'm done. Plus, then I'd be exhausted. Ain't nobody got time for that!

For reals?! I would have a hard time keeping my comment to myself in that situation!!

"We no longer believe in vaccines" could be code for "Someone told me it was easier to tell you this than to take my kid to the doctor. So now you can't exclude my precious snowflake and I don't have to turn in one of those pesky forms"
