SOOOOOOOOO happy and relieved. Thanks for your well wishes. I'm going to go relax with some family then run off for my flight. I'll post more later!
Hi everyone.. I finally made it back to FL.. I had to battle a snow storm on the last day I was there (if you test in Utica or the northern areas in the winter, make sure you watch the weather so you can be prepared!)
I'm still in shock that it is over- I feel like I'm forgetting to do something because I have nothing to do:D I LOVE the feeling! I can't wait to go grab a novel and read something other than nursing stuff!
My view of the CPNE.
It is a test so you know it is something you have to study for and be well prepared. Again, practice, critical elements and important notes to help you remember stuff can really help. I almost forgot to sign the MAR on 1 PCS but looked at my check off list at the right time and saw that as a to do! Yes it was challenging, no I never want to experience it again but it IS doable and people are passing! My nerves were more out of control with this test than any other event in my life. Do something to help you calm yourself. I sang my favorite song (to myself of course- this is not american idol) and that helped distract me from the pressure. I think it wouldn't be as bad if it wasn't so darn expensive. That is what made me the most nervous I think.
I encourage everyone to submit their practice PCS documentation to Dr. A on occasion to see if you are charting correctly and including everything. I'm glad I did this because I was able to correct myself before the actual CPNE.
I also did not take a workshop but I did have a study group that REALLY helped because we would test each other, do practice PCS's and have our families stand around to make us nervous (good luck Teresa- she is testing Jan 9, 10 and 11th in Atlanta).
Day 1 I failed the wound station and passed the other 3. I failed the wound station for one of the dumbest reasons and it was entirely my fault (I didn't put on the abd pad correctly even though I KNEW how and knew what it looks like). Don't ask how it happened. It just did and I'm still clueless as to how my brain let that happen. I'll post a more in depth journal (on the EPN) when I get more time. I didn't sleep at ALL that night either and I knew I had a big day ahead of me.
I passed all my PCS's with no repeats. Day 2, I didn't have a peds patient since there were none so I had an adult substitute (can't say I'm upset about that haha). I had to repeat my wound lab and passed- I was more nervous the 2nd time because I knew I had only 1 PCS to go and if I didn't pass the wound this time, I was going home.
Day 3, I passed my PCS and was done my 10:10. I was brought downstairs to the cold hub room and got a paper saying when I should expect to graduate. I was a little paranoid that I didn't get any written "proof" that I passed but I'm fine now because I know I saw the "pass" circled on all 3.
Good luck to all those enrolled in EC and watch for my journal on the EPN in about a week or so if you want to read more.
Does anyone know how long it takes for your evaluation to reflect the completion of the CPNE on the EC website?
change, again congrats! how long did it take you to prepare. i here some say 3 mo. and some say 8 mo. i know it is an individual preference. this one person told me by the time she reached the 4 month mark, she was like okay...i just need to go and get it over with. anyway...just wondering what you and others before you thought,...and those that have been preparing and ready to test soon. thanks in advance for your responses. traci

sorry i forgot to answer that! i finished my exams in the beginning of august and applied right after. i gathered my supplies (wound, dressings ect..) and waited for my cpne cd so i can print it out. i studied for 4 months before my exam. those months included the months with holidays so i took many "breaks" to entertain family and travel (so more like 3.5 months and i felt like i had had enough by that time). i did stick to a schedule and it worked for me. as i mentioned, i also had a study group and we got together at least once a week for about 3-4 hrs. i had been an lpn for 2 years so i had some knowledge of the aoc's and labs. i brought some notecards to work and used them as the basis for my charting and patient care in the months leading up to the cpne. it just became second hand after a while so i think that helped because i got some good study time in during work hours
