I need advice please! Urgent.

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi everyone! I need on advice on what way to go to become a Registered Nurse. I am based in the Chicago area and want to stay around here for nursing school ( family house is here).

A little background about me.

Please keep in mind that I graduated in May 2015 with a Bachelor of Science degree (Community Health Education) with a GPA of 2.94. I thought of applying to the accelerated nursing program right after but I decided to pursue a Master of Public Health degree (MPH - I love it so far). I will be graduating next year (May 2017) and so far I have a 3.89 GPA.

My MPH degree is 80% sponsored, so I barely have any loans taken out for grad school. However in undergrad, I believe I am in debt of 29k (not worried)

NOTE: I am trying to get into the nursing program for FALL 2017.

Although I still have a year left, several nursing schools require different exams. I have to prepare for that before I apply, one year is an ideal time for me.

Most of the deadlines I have seen are in January 2017 (before I complete my MPH).

Questions that need answers :

I want to know what a reasonable route for me to take to become a registered nurse is.

I am not interested in going for an ADN (no offense, I repeat.. no offense).

I have also looked at graduate entry programs, MEPN.. RUSH, UIC, ELMHURST, DEPAUL (I really only have UIC and Rush's pre-req requirements and RUSH only offers MSN)

Accelerated programs I have seen are either not in the chicago area or require a previous nursing certificate. There are two schools that I meet requirements for and is in the chicago area.

And the post/request is urgent because.......??

Nothing about multiple degrees or student loans is URGENT. Thus, the post is funny.

FYI, it's "SHE who pays"

Related to "She Who Must Be Obeyed"? Or, "She Who Must Not Be Named"?

In a perfect world, you are correct, both grammatically and financially.

In reality, I suspect that a student pursing a 3rd degree without working in either of the first 2 fields will likely be seeking help with "insurmountable" student debt. I can only hope that I'm wrong.

I totally understand and apologize for the rudeness of others. Pay no mind to the negative comments. You are well on your way to living a happy successful life which others may find intimidating

I am confused. Who exactly is intimidated? What are they intimidated of?

Wow easy guys lol.. Maybe it's not urgent but the OP was probably very stressed about this particular thing when posting and just could have used different wording.. but I hate to see it getting heated on here.

OP, do lots of research before deciding. Make sure that nursing is what you want to do, look up schools in your area on google and nursing board as others have suggested. Where there is a will there is a way and im sure once you figure out the financial stuff, your current degrees will help you get there faster.

Patience, butterfly. Sorry, couldn't resist.

So then everyone correcting OP about the use of the word "urgent" probably isn't necessary either going by that logic, yes? Don't get me wrong. This post definitely isn't urgent and that's truly one of my biggest pet peeves. If you tell me everything is urgent, then I will consider nothing you say to be urgent/important/etc. I found the humor in the comments and laughed to myself when reading them initially, but I did feel guilty afterwards. It just wasn't necessary and came off kind of mean at second glance. That probably wasn't the intention, but that's how it was experienced by some. I can understand why some have felt the need to stick up for OP and I think it shows a sense of compassion. There's no need to put them down too. Can't we all just get along? :(

I see that you're brand spanking new here. Welcome and please do not feel an obligation to apologize for other posters. Everyone is entitled to post their own feelings in a healthy give and take, and do not need scoldings or corrections from others.

Sorry. I'm new at this. I was trying to reply to this quote in particular.

I am finding it hard to believe that someone with all that knowledge, who is on their way to living a happy and successful life, can't just research the information. I am also surprised an admin hasn't stepped in and moved this thread to the "Chicago" board.

This is not a question for a nursing forum. This is a question for your academic guidance counselor.

I'd triage this post as an ESI Level 5.

Why do you feel you have the authority to speak for others? If they feel they should apologize, they will do so. If they are against TOS, the mods will remove the posts and warn them. Otherwise, their posts stand.

OP, with all of your formal education, I'd advise you to go to a direct entry MSN program.
