I am really upset by ghetto nursing program at HCC. I cant enroll for hesi test as slots are filled up, as next hesi would be held in summer..I m really screwed.. plz help help

I was hoping to do my pharma in summer but I might not be able to do. plus I heard that now you would have to wait till you are actually called by committee to take pharm 1301. what in the world is going on with nursing progrom..

UR input wud higly be appreciated..

lil sporty,

try to disregard the sarcasm given by neonurse:no:, we should all be here to keep one another encouraged. Its obvious what the gist of your concern is. Before referring to any program as ghetto, make sure that you are well prepared. I'm not in that program, but did you wait until the last minute, thus you are now rushing to get in? Is HCC the only school where you may take Pharm? If it is, for their program, are there any other classes you may take should you need to wait until the next app period? If so, place all of your contingencies in order. I hope this helps some.:wink2:

I understand what you are coming from. I applied early and whenever i stopped by to pay for the hesi test, They would tell me to call someone else, or come by another day, ot that they didn't deal with it someone else did. SOme days no one was in the office. By the time i got in contact with someone she told me that the last hesi test was already taken and that I would have to appl for the LVN- RN program for summer of 2010 instead of summer 09.

Maybe you can take the HESI somewhere else and have the grades forwarded to them? just a thought. I know with NET that happens all the time. Good luck

what makes it "ghetto"? i realllly hate that word. people misinterpret it ALL the time

Well, I have to agree that if you waited now to do this, then yeah, there's no way of getting the HESI done now or even a spot for the summer. I personally have taken my HESI @ HCC, if I can remember correctly they don't take HESI scores from other places. Mostly because they require 4 parts and other schools just require 3, so you'll be one section short. So, I took the HESI Fall 07 so that I can have a spot in their summer 08 pharm class. So you can imagine there's a whole semester or two wait for their pharm class. I did get in their program, but go to another college, however I know people who have gotten in and their experiences haven't been that great. From what I hear they are very short-staff right now and disorganized as well. if I were you I would look around to other colleges and see when their deadlines are and give yourself a good 6 months AHEAD of the deadline to apply so that you won't be rushing now. It's just good "critical thinking" in preparations for becoming a good nurse. :wink2:

No i didn't do this now, I did this in the fall. I applied early in the semester. But every time I went there no one was there or they said that they weren't handling the payment for the hesi

Yeah, that should be a clue as to how the program is ran. I took Pharm there, and based on the staff, decided that HCC was NOT the school I wanted to attend. I would suggest applying other places.

Ugh! This news doesnt sound good. I am supposed to take the HESI there soon. I emailed nursing program last week about the next dates and she indicated only in July again! And they dont know what the dates will be either. She suggested calling back in June... So the saga continues

Good Morning Ang_1 I can receive private messages but I can't respond to them. Send me your private email address and I will email you. Thanks!

Avoid HCC at all costs!!! I know 1 person that failed with a 74 and another that is still barely hanging on. A lot of the students are repeaters. Find another place.

Hey everyone!! I am currently in the nursing program at HCC now. Up to date, I have never had a problem with them. I started in the fall of 08 and just passed pedi/ob this passed spring! Yeahhh!! :) I can say that the program is very intense and that it is not easy at all. Pedi/ob are known to be the so called "weed out" courses. We did lose about 50% of our classmates in pedi. I am making A's and B's...it is very doable. I also do not work and that is why I think I am doing well. I have an awesome support system as well. If you do work I think that is where the problem comes in. It is extremely hard to work, have a family, etc. on top of school and pass! I am in the program and yes it has its flaws. What program doesn't? I stay on top of my paperwork, and do what I have to do to make sure it all runs smooth for me. That is what you have to do no matter what school you go to. To get through the nursing program the key is self-organization and FLEXIBILITY. ;)

On another note, had a girlfriend apply to UT-Houston and they LOST her file. Had no history of her even applying or anything..."accidents" or "disorganization" happens everywhere.

If you ever have any questions about HCC just PM me. I will be happy to help you.

I am also not a repeater and neither is the rest of my class. ;)
