Just wanted to tell everyone I love my residents! Even the one who is confused and was upsetting to me has found her way into my heart She has a nick name for me (she calls me Cherry...how cute is that?) and she remembers me from day to day :) LOVE THEM! I love the one who sings to me while I am charting. I love the one who has aphasia but still finds a way to express himself (and be ornery) so well. I love the one who calls me "loca" and then acts shocked when I call her on it "eee I didn't know you knew Spanish (wink, wink)". I love that even on my days off I wonder about them and hope they are all doing well. :redbeathe

I loved my residents too. They truly light up my world ! It is never a dull moment working in LTC. :redpinkhe
AND I realize I haven't bee doing this very long and all the newness and novelty may wear off and a year from now I might be complaining about the lady who won't quit singing while I am trying to take a call.....but for now I am so happy:clown:
P.S. How was that for a run on sentence?

hehe. I kind of know what you mean. I worked as an aide during (last) summer as a job between the spring and fall college semesters.
I still wonder how some of them are doing. I love the ones that still have fun and have a bit of playful fight in them. It's endearing. There was one that would call me "that D*nm new girl", but not saying it in a mean tone, just joshing around. She didn't like it when I left, she told me I was the only aid that actually seemed to like being there and enjoyed talking to the residents instead of hurrying thru my day.

How refreshing to read your message! After 38 years on the job, I still love my residents too! And I hope you will always find such joy in your job and continue to bring joy into theirs - they deserve you!

I have a resident who is spanish. I speak basic phrases to her in spanish. (she understands and speaks both spanish and english) "Hola.. Como estas" and sometimes I mess it up. "Buenos noches" and she corrects me.. "NO NO NO NO NO BuenAS NochAS" lol

Haha I love my residents too! I've learned through working on the unit I do love my residents. Between the two men who are always asking for my hand in marriage (I've gotten EVERY corny pick up line now), to the guy that teaches me spanish (and is better then any other spanish teacher I EVER had, and laughs when I messes up before telling me slowly the word again). I swear they all make me smile or laugh in their own special way!

Even the ridiculously annoying ones have their moments. There's a gentleman where I work who likes to turn his head away or blow raspberries when you try to give him meds. On one typical day he drank some Milk of Magnesia without complaint and I was about to thank him for it...then he opened his mouth and shook his head back and forth, like a dog coming out of a pond...MoM EVERYWHERE! The last time I took care of him, I put his crushed pills in chocolate pudding instead of applesauce. He kept saying, "No, no, no, I don't want it, Ma'am," while trying to pull the spoon away from me b/c I wasn't refilling it fast enough! I told him, "Hang on, it takes me a second to get the next scoop ready," and he yelled, "That's bull****, Ma'am! Do you like bull****, Ma'am? You like bull****! You like bull****, Ma'am!" It was the 'Ma'am' that set me off. I got out of his room without laughing, then had to hide in the med room for a few minutes to calm down. I think I'll give him chocolate pudding every day for a while and see what else happens.
lol.. and then when they spit the chocolate pudding/pill mixture onto your pants.. it doesn't look good. so whenever i give an unpredictable resident meds in chocolate pudding.. spoon in the mouth.. remove spoon and back far away as possible lol
Still love my residents....bored to death of the job
