...here is another case of 'everything is the nurses fault'. Seriously, its almost getting comical. I just want to know how the politicians and management are all coming out of this and other similiar articles without even so much as a mention. Understaffing to blame, anyone??? Budget cuts???? Lack of resources???? Nope, its just because nurses are _______, fill in the blank with the appropriate derogatory term.

Well, like last time I added my comments but I'm really fed-up of this. Wish they'd give us a break & attack the people who are the real problem - politicians, chief executives etc etc!!
Congrats Scat I'll have that wine for you!

the other day i burst out crying on the ward, and again when i got home. i am so over stressed. we have been running on skeleton staff for so long now, it all got too much. you run around trying your hardest to give your patients the same quality of care as if you were fully staffed, and all you get is critised. i am so angry and frustrated. not only are we short staffed and they keep sending patients, knowing we haven't got the cover to adequately look after them, there is ALWAYS someone wanting to audit something - even though they know you are short staffed, how fair is that?????? there is no support from senior nurses or management, and it is always the nurses who are running there orifices off that get blamed for EVERYTHING!!!!! the public need to open their eyes and recognise what is going on and stop moaning and blaming it on the nurses. i'm also fed up with ex-nurses who retired like 50 years ago, who criticise. things were "done differently in their day", well they should try working in the nhs now, and then see their opinions change! i am soooooooo angry!!!!!!

Sorry, but if they retired 50 years ago, chances of them being alive today are quite slim.
And this thread was started more than 18 months ago, and is not specific to working in the UK either.
well i saw it today, so i replied to it. if it's out of date then take it off. i'm entitled to my opinion and to vent my frustration, if this is unacceptable i won't bother next time

This website has no criteria for closing threads that are considered to be old except to point out that fact as if the content were not relevant. You will also notice thread after thread on the very same topic started by different people over the years. Choose to read and respond as you care to. Personally, I welcome being able to read input from most, no matter how old the original thread.
This thread is old but the stories are still coming out in the press saying the same thing so it's still relevant unfortunately.
It's always the same though - a few rotten apples spoiling the entire crop! I'm sure that's a worlwide problem too!
Personally I think the same could be said for our patients!
I had to giggle at your comment, Suzanne! Although I feel like I've been working since 50 years ago sometimes!!
thanks to caliotter3. i saw the thread, and it just so happened that, because of the situation at work which i wrote about, i felt i wanted to put my opinion across. whether the thread was started 18 months ago or not, it is still very relevent to many nurses out there today, and therefore it could go on for another 18 months or more. i do acknowledge that i over exagerated the retired 50 years ago bit, but obviously suzanne didn't take it in the flavour of which it was intended
