I just took the NCLEX - PN, my thoughts.

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I feel like burning most the LVN review books I bought as they did me no good what-so-ever on the NCLEX. The questions I got came out of left field. Stuff that wasn't taught in school like post mordum care for jewish men and questions about the Buhdist faith. I couldn't believe the questions I got. It felt like I guessed at half the questions. What a terrible feeling I have now. I have went threw the ENTIRE Saunders LNV review book and cd TWICE, that's 6,000 questions, as well as the kaplan review book, "lvn made easy", and the mosby cd. Total review questions and rationales done exceeded 8,000. Yet it didn't help me at all. Yes I read the rationales for ALL the questions/ answers. The NCSBN.ORG review was the only thing that helped me as the questions were similar to the NCLEX.

The VAST majority of question were priority questions. I had learned all the tricks to answer these in the Kaplan book. Only one big problem....the priority questions in kaplan are a complete joke (very easy) compared to the actual NCLEX ones which were brutal.

My computer shut off at 85 and I am positive I got the 85th question wrong because I looked it up when I got home. I hear if the computer stops at 85 and you miss the last question ...you most likely failed if you weren't doing so hot. I wanted to throw up when I left the testing center.

So hear I sit and have to wait 3 weeks to get result in CA. I will start checking the LVN board website next week, but I have a bad feeling my name won't be up there and I will have to take the NCLEX again.

Are you sure Kaplan offers the money back guarantee for the NCLEX-PN preparation? I know they do for the NCLEX-RN.
Well, I purchased a Kaplan NCLEX-PN strategies book. The first page reads, "If after using this book, you do not pass the test, or if you are not satisfied with this book for any reason, you may return it and get your original purchase price back..."

It is not always easy to get your money refunded. There are quite a few here that have had problems trying to do that.

Thanks Communter. I asked because it does not give that guarantee on the web site like it does for the NCLEX-RN.

Congratulations BigB.:w00t:

I got in on this a little late, but I read all your threads it was kinda like a soap opera. It was fun though, I am so happy for you, you go boy!!!:smiley_aa

thx for the congrats! I am still waiting for my actualy license to arrive(that takes 3- 4 weeks AFTER you get your passing result. California's lvn board is seriously in need of drastic changes....waiting sucks.

times sure have changed, eh? i did the lpn boards with a # 2 pencil and had to do all the questions....and wait for a piece of paper saying whether i passed or not. no calling a 900 number.

nearly 17 years later, did the computerized rn boards......talk about hair frazzling!! :bluecry1: :bluecry1:

good luck to all of you!

Congratulations!!!!! I too live in California, just graduated from LVN school on 11/18/05, will take NCLEX on 2/16/06. Am studying my butt off right now. Just came back from Vegas with book in towe and will take it with me to hawaii next month. I just finished the Delmar book and was going to start my Mosby book. I do not have Kaplan. Is Mosby a waste of time do you think? Already bought it so that's why I'm asking.......... Thanks for any advice on passing NCLEX and I'm so happy for you. What part of California do you live. I live in Palmdale. My daughter is an RN student. Take care and Happy New Year to you!!!!!

I reviewed my notes thru the summer, I would do at least 30mins study a day no more. The night before my exam I was at work, reading questions and my mind was going blank. I remember calling my dad in tears saying I wasnt smart enough, this is crazy, blah blah .. he told me it was jitters that I would be fine and to put the book down and watch the superbowl. (funny how you remember things like that huh)

I took the test in 01 i had close to 284 questions. Halfway thru I asked the proctor, was she 100% sure I had the LPN test not the RN or even Dr boards. I got some laughs with that, and i was dead serious. I walked out drained. I forked out the 7.95 for the 3 day phone call. When I heard i passed, it was the greatest moment in my life to date. I couldnt wait to tell someone. The questions as I recall were random. I dont recall alot of religious issues, but the world is a different place since 01. (cant even call a tree decorated christmas tree) Quess its a sign of the times.

take a deep breathe, read each question dont over annalyize what they are asking and you will be fine. GOOD LUCK TO ALL WHO HAVE READ THIS AND ARE GOING TO TAKE THEIR EXAM!!!

Not sure if this question was directed at me , but i'll jump on it heheh. I found mosby a waste of time. I went threw the book and cd multiple times and didn't see anything in them on the nclex, just regurgitated nursing content that I had learned in school. I found the Kaplan RN, yes RN book, to be very very helpful on the NCLEX _PN exam. I cannot recommend http://www.ncsbn.org "learning extension" enough...that review helped me ace the NCLEX with 85 questions. I am from sacramento, ca.

New to this site. LOL that everyone here sounds and feels just like me and if one more person tells me they know I passed I'm gonna scream. My test shut off at 96. Thirty of which were pharm questions. Im seriously going crazzzzy. What web site can you look at to get your results if your from Cali? Or is it true I have to be tortured for two more weeks?
