Ok. Who is in the mood for a good mood thread? I am.
Finally, after two plus years of working nights and hating EVERY SECOND of it, I landed a job with daylight hours. I just have to do two nights a month to satisfy the "off shift" quota.
I'll start the new position next month, after I finish the posted schedule.
Finally, off nights. I could just go outside and dance in the snow with nothing but my socks on right now.
I get to sleep when the moon is up and the stars are out. It'll be dark and cool and I will sleep like a baby. I'll be a normal person again...........well.......as normal as someone who dances in the snow in their birthday suit can be anyway.
Congrats, Eric. I can see you dancing in the moonlight (and not much else ). I hope the switch is everything you want it to be.
Even though night shift is bad for the health, I'm a die-hard lover of nights. Few, if any, families to deal with. Few, if any, managers to see. Few, if any, doctors rounding and writing a million new orders. Patients will be trying to catch up on their sleep on a good night.
Early studies indicated that night shift was a health hazard. But later research made a distinction between night shifters who were willing and those who were forced. The nocturnal-by-choice folks showed little difference from those who worked days. Most of the bad effects seemed to occur in those who either didn't want to work nights or found that their bodies never really adjusted properly. Or those who worked swing shifts--that, to me, is the worst!
DH and I have been happy noc shifters for years. We live in a parallel universe and are quite content that way. We often carpool, and sometimes we'll go out for breakfast. On our days off, we'll do lunch and a movie matinee. We can shop at three in the morning with no crowds to disturb us.
And we both fly low on the radar and avoid a lot of hassle at our respective jobs.
I would want a BIG differential to switch to days, which fights my natural rhythms. Fortunately, there isn't much chance of that happening.

You will post pictures, right?
Congrats!
I worked overnights for 1 and 1/2 years, so I feel your pain! And when I started working daylight hours again, I thought it would take a while to get back into a normal sleep cycle, but I suprised myself. Sleeping at night is the right thing for a body!!
So have a good NIGHT's sleep!
Congratulations! My husband and I are both night people and would happily work nights by choice. I think it just depends on who you are, what feels natural/best for you, and other obligations in your life as to which shift suits each individual best.
I danced in the snow in my socks once. I wouldn't recommend it. You end up with cold wet feet! (Although it is somewhat exhilarating! LOL)
Congrats again. I hope it works out well for you. :)
I too love nights like some above, but grats to you for getting what you want.But..."off shift quota"? ???
????????
What is it and more important, why is it?

Off shift quota is our hospitals way of covering all the bases. Off shifts include nights, weekends and holidays. To be considered full time, you have to have "X" amt. of off shifts........part time less, casual even less.
It keeps people from being too favored on the schedule.

Unbeknown to him, I sneaked over and got a pic of Eric doing his naked snow dance; here it is....
