Ok, girl, here is the scoop on the NCLEX: it is a very silly test! Below are the three books I used to review. Two of them are just your basic NCLEX review books. They have several thousand questions and some review sections. Fairly standard. I probably answered all total about 2000 practice questions, and as I recall EC sends you a free sign up for an online NCLEX practice exam.

Now here is the thing. For all my reviewing there was ONE book that really hit it home for me. It has some review questions but that is not its strength. This book is so cool because it goes over a basic strategy on HOW to answer the questions. It is a Kaplan book and it rocked. When I walked out of that test site I knew the only thing I studied that counted (in terms of NCLEX prep) was that Kaplan book.

Here are the names and ISBN numbers with links:

Kaplan NCLEX-RN Exam 2005-2006 edition. ISBN: 0-7432-6540-8

I really only needed this book to pass the NCLEX. There are several Kaplan books out there. This book was around 30 to 40 bucks. UPDATE: There is a new edition, ISBN: 1419551817. I can't speak for the updated edition, but it is the same authors and looks like the same format and is only around $23 dollars.

NCLEX-RN Review 5th ed. by Alice Stein, NSNA ISBN: 1401837522

This book is well reviewed. It does do a good job of "mini" reviews followed by questions. I like this book. I don't think the updated version has come out yet because they are taking pre-orders for it on Amazon. The link above is for the current version that I used.

NCLEX-RN Questions and Answers Made Incredibly Easy! 3rd ed. ISNB: 1-58255-450-1

Not a bad book. Some review. Lots of questions. Update: current version is 4th edition. ISBN: 1582555613

It was great to review for the NCLEX simply because I just needed the review anyway. I hadn't looked at some of the concepts in over two years by that point so in that sense NCLEX review is awesome, but what is really cool is the Kaplan approach on how to look at each question and eliminate some answers and prioritize the rest. It definitely worked for me.:specs:

Good luck,

Ivan

Thanks, Ivan. Actually, I'm not worried.
