I just ordered a Zuca bag for school

Published

Hello all! I was reading a thread about gear for school and a few people recommended these Zuca bags. I had been looking at other bags, but these seem much better for our needs! Thought I'd share! Can't wait to get mine. :p

I thought I was going to have to carry all my stuff but it turned out I didn't. We have lab/clinicals on days when we do not have lecture. I bring my book bag to lecture, which contains my syllabus and binder, and my clinical bag for the other days which I have my "tools". I have a large pencil bag that I carry highlighters and post-its, etc to switch back and forth. On occasion we have been told to bring in a ton of books, in which case, a big rollar is useful. Every school is different though. It's better to be prepared. The bag seems good and durable so it should last you until your NE school endeavors are over.

I love love these bags....the best part is that you can sit on them when you travel and there are no sits available :)

But I don't think you need a huge bag for nursing school.

We can only have 2 classes per day ( nursing classes)... yes the books are huge but you don't need them everyday and easy to carry.

Wow! Does everyone not realize that each school is different. I will have a minimum of 4 books that I need everyday. Not including all the other binders and stuff. She already ordered it, I don't think she was looking for people to give her reasons why she shouldn't have. Like OP said, different strokes for different folks....leave it at that!

This is probably too bulky for my needs, but I do want a rolling bag of some sort. Anyone have any others they really like?

I just want to point out when I was carrying my micro book, micro lab material, notebook, lunch....my instructor was on my case everyday about getting that load off my back and a few others too she would comment. (instructor also MD) stated you don't know the damage now, but you are doing damage to your discs. I think it is wise to get some sort of wheely as I plan to bring my lunch as well and want to fit my books, lab materials, lunch and anything else needed. Let's remember that priorities for school supplies differ from one to another. Some go with a cheap stethoscope others put the money out front for a better quality, some buy the expensive nurse shoes, others just wear white tennis shoes, etc. OP forsees using it for travel and other things, but even so this was a priority item that OP wanted quality and space. It's a different type of bag I have never seen, but for free....sure I would like it. That is why I haven't purchased anything yet due to cost. I think the wheely regular backpacks are small so I am thinking of going with a briefcase type style. Still searching, but noone should have to justify why they buy what they buy.

I got a rolling briefcase. It looks just like this one.

I didn't get that exact one. Mine is from Target by Embark. I got it on clearance for $30 and it was $60. I like that I can use the handles in the winter when walking to the car. If I had to do it again, I would get the Jansport Driver 8. Try craigslist for a used one. The reason? Jansport has a lifetime warrany. I have a black and suede backpack and twenty years from now, if a zipper breaks...they will fix it for free. I love a company that stands by their workmanship for a lifetime. I've used my backpack for the last two years. I'm getting a jansport bookbag for my son too. Kindergarteners can be rough, so hopefully he'll WANT to carry it..LOL!

Yea at my NS you don't need to lug around books. This is a good thing as the Med Surg book is 2688 pages so it's a HUGE book. I just bring the binders for my particular lecture class that day, the Med Surg Rationale and Review book and their Maternal Newborn by Prentice to review at the coffee shop at school between classes, and the clinical skills book. Other than that my nursing ethics and legal book, maternal/newborn, patho, pharm, transcultural health and community health nursing books stay at the house. There is no need to bring these to class since all lectures are by power point so I just bring my binders and laptop to school.

For clinicals they don't want us bringing books to the hospital anyways as that would take up to much space in the conference room so they made us buy books for pda, blackberry, iphone so we carry are drug books, lab diagnostics, nursing diagnosis, etc on are smart phones or pda. I'm definitely saving my back from injuries with this method.

For other people debating on backpacks/rolling bags you should check with the program to even see if you REALLY need to have textbooks with you to bring to class most teachers will tell you no or only for skills lab.

For other people looking for rolling bags that are not sooo expensive check out ebags.com. They ALWAYS have sales and free shipping and it's easy to return your item if you don't like it. They have GREAT customer service. I bought my Under Armour bag there (it has a GREAT laptop area in the bag that is well protects and padded) when I was in the Army and it STILL is being used as my NS bag. Plus it has a lifetime warranty.

Shopping now - Overstock.com has some very nice looking roller briefcases with good reviews from other college students at pretty reasonable prices. I may go with something from there.

I have a large Jansport rolling backpack that I bought last fall for school. I have lecture and lab on the same day, and have to carry several textbooks, binders, lab supplies, my laptop, and lunch around all day. Mine has a special compartment for my laptop, and the handle is long enough for my height. (I'm 5'9"). I waited until the second week of school to get it, when school supplies were on clearance, and was able to purchase it for 50% off.

Some students in my program use small rolling suitcases, but they are awkward to open and tend to flip over when pulling them.

If you spend any extra time at school like I do, due to carpooling, then that bag is perfect. I end up hauling several books and my laptop to school each day I'm there, so I hope your bag works for you!

Thanks! Yes, even for the past several semesters of just taking prereqs and other classes, I could have used this bag for school. I carry a lot of stuff and am not fond of going back to my car for a switcheroo. ;)

Off topic...Does anyone know if any of the nursing or reference books that y'all have had to have, are available on Kindle? That would save me some room, too!

It looks a bit odd; more like a futuristic suitcase than a bag on wheels. I'll be starting NS this Fall. I think I'll just stick with my over-sized L.L.Bean tote.

There's so many stairs in my school's nursing building, I'd end up carrying that type of bag (wheels, etc.) most of the time anyway; my campus also loves to make their side-walks go to the end of the earth before actually leading you to a building..and I like walking across the Quad (big grassy area that the side-walks avoid like the plague) far to much to be tugging at something in tow.

I'm also a L.L.Bean fanatic, so I'm biased. But to each their own! :)
