I drove to Memphis and saw what the area was like and it is no where near as bad as some folks were saying. I am now officially excited about this and I'm anxious to get to January! Now to get uniforms, ID's, get money for books, oh and pass calculus. So much to do. anyone else attend orientation or have a date coming up?

My orientation is tomorrow. I have to have proof of malpractice insurance, RN deposit in, uniforms and student kit ordered, physical, :)

I think I am all set to do this. Wish me luck

Good Luck! I know you are all set.

I am still doing great in calculus. I have completed 5 assignments and I'm understanding everything, thanks to the standard deviants DVD's. I take my final on Dec 22nd. Wish me luck!

Great job, CRNA! I bought Standard Deviant's Algebra DVD, but haven't received it yet. (I bought it off of Ebay.) I hope it helps me as much as your calculus DVD is!!!!!

That's so exciting, Jess!!! Good luck! :balloons:

AWESOME, girlie!!! Approaching, fast, huh?:p

Soooo...how was it how was it how was it???? Can't wait to hear the details!

And I KNOW you're set to do this. You're one of the most wonderful people that I know (online or off). People like you and Fun2Care are few and far between. You've finally gotten your dream. Now all you have to do is wait for your first day!

Forgive me if I sound stupid.

Why are you taking Calculus?

Are you going to medical school to become a doctor? I've never heard of anyone taking Calculus to become a nurse. Not even an NP, I believe, requires Calculus.

Enlighten me

Never mind, I figured it out. You want to be a CRNA. I get it. I read your name.

Peace

Actually, my school has basic calculus and regular calculus as it's general education requirement. They don't even take algebra. Where most school's want statistics, Univ. of Memphis wants that and one of the four required math's. I really have no idea what the other two required math's are, so I just took calculus. It's really not hard at all. Algebra deals with the slope of straight lines, and the area and dimensions of regular shaped objects and calculus deals with objects you'd actually see in the real world and curved lines. Actually calculus looks like it would be more useful in the real world than algebra. So, I'm just a regular nursing student. I look at the bright side; if I can pass calculus, I have no excuse not to pass dosage calculations. Oh yeah, I already took it, but I have to take it again for the program.

Awwww, thanks Peachy, you are so sweet. God bless ya!

Orientation was da bomb! :chuckle

We got our uniforms, kits and other things. We got our clinical assigned and also got an assignment already. We are to read a few chapters on how others perceive their health. (Or what constitutes healthy to them) etc. I started last night and so far have found it very interesting.

The director is a charm, and gave us such an encouraging lecture it brought tears to our eyes. She wants us to be a family, and help each other to the end. Hardly anyone ever drops the programs she says, unless it's an extreme must.

Lots of 1 on 1 help too. We have new advisors and department to report too. She made us feel truly blessed to be there and unique.

Honestly, it went better than I thought.

Our names were pulled out of a hat and chose our clinical location that way to be fair. Mine was toward the end, so I got a spot in a "prestigious" LTC facility :)

The program is 5 semesters. We are going to rotate and end up in all the facilities eventually. 1 LTC and 4 semesters at a hospital.
