I just failed my NCLEX...

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I graduated May 11 2019.. took my NCLEX on the 18 of June. I had a lot going on at the time but I thought I was prepared. I did use UWorld, and some of Kaplan. I really need a good study strategy . I am not sure if I am understanding the question or maybe not understanding content well enough. I am so down. I just registered back at Pearson but don’t know what happens next . I can’t get out of my head. All my friends are passing and I feel so awful that I failed.

Oh thank you for this you’re an inspiration. Today I told myself to stop being in my head. And just start moving forward. Thank you

I used both Kaplan and UWorld to study for my NCLEX. Kaplan is not in depth and I believe they provide an ebook. If you plan on using Kaplan, you may want to use it with the ebook. I would recommend UWorld because it's detailed, and rationales are more in depth.

I struggle a bit with navigating UWorld. I read the rationale but didn’t take enough notes as I needed to I guess. I did lil bit of Kaplan but confused a lil about how to use the decision tree especially finding the abcs in priority questions or in some questions.

I used the qbank. I purchased other nclex online class materials but it was to confusing. Sometimes all you need is to get the questions and figure out why you do and don't understand them. Read the rationales. The more questions you answer correctly the better. Don't worry about your friends that are passing. Just focus on you. It is not a competition between you and them. Don't do a lil Kaplan, do a lot. I feel Kaplan is the way to go, because I found a lot of Kaplan type questions on the Nclex. It was straight forward, other stuff confused me. I tested for 30 minutes, even tried to draw out the time because I answered the questions so quickly. I thought it was no way the questions were geared so closely to kaplan. I was out of the testing center quick. It does depend on the type of test taker you are. I already had a solid foundation of the material so all I needed was the questions.

Just sit down and do 75 questions at a time. Even if you go back and grade them later, just get a bunch of NCLEX books and sit down & do questions ONLY.

Once you grade them, only review what you got wrong. If you got something wrong and understand it, move on. If you don't understand why it's wrong, review information pertaining to that question, and that question only. If you notice you're getting questions wrong in a certain category, review it as a whole because it's a weak point for you.

Do NOT restudy! That'll only add more in your head and make you second guess yourself. You shouldn't have to spend tons of money on study questions as you should have been taught in school. You can get NCLEX books at the library. Check them out and use them. Also, Kaplan has an NCLEX review book that tells you how the NCLEX functions and the basics. Review it, it's not that big of a book.

Training your mind to do blocks of 75 questions is your friend.

Good luck on the retake!

The Hurst review was honestly the best thing looking back. I had a lot of different study materials and recommendations from friends who were ahead of me in school and Hurst wins hands down. I would also recommend the NCLEX RN Mastery app on iTunes. There is an in app purchase for $30ish that was well worth it. Reading the rationals for all questions answered and not just the questions you got wrong will help a large amount as well. Keep your head up. You know the information. Good luck! ?

I hope you pass the next time. May you have many fortunes and wishes in the upcomming days until your exam.

I did Uworld and took notes on every rationale and then read through them everyday. Not super detailed notes, just stuff I thought was important, maybe 2-3 sentences each. NCLEX was literally the easiest test I took after a few weeks of doing that.

Hello Utopia Addai,

I want you to know that you will pass the NCLEX on your next attempt. But first, you must wipe your slate clean. Get out of your head and dive into NCLEX prep like you've never failed before.

I would recommend you look over your UWorld account and find out your weakest subject areas. Complete 75Qs everyday on those topics. Take notes and review them later that same day. Take breaks in between. Eat well and stay hydrated. Do something you love. Practice affirmations and tell yourself that you are capable and that you will pass.

I look forward to your update when you tell us the good news. Best of luck!

Thank you so much

Do not think about which is the correct answer. It’s multiple guess- so think about ruling out answers.

1) do you have to act immediately while calling the doctor (is, life saving measures)?

2) do you have to call the doctor before taking any action?

3) which choice will bring the patient HARM?

4) which choice involved INACTION?

5) is this s task I can delegate? And to whom?

Don’t fret. I was an honors student. Took me 217 questions. I had to take an unscheduled 30 minute break to gather my thoughts because I was sensing anxiety and felt like I was not doing well. Take an unscheduled break if you need it. It’s what helped me. Gauge your anxiety level- because this test can be stressful.

I know was very anxious as well on the text . I notice I my mind was zooming in and out on the exam.. Thanks for the tips. Thank you

Open an account with ATI and buy their NCLEX study guide. I just got into nursing school, but I used it to prep for the TEAS and did very well. It is costly, but worth it. And sometimes you can find a coupon code online.
