My state took away CNA certificates from licensed nurses almost 20 years ago. At one time one could work as a non certified CNA while being trained, but required to obtain CNA certificate after four months. I do not believe you can work in a CNA position without a valid CNA certificate, but this is something that you will have to verify with your state agency that oversees CNAs.

i think it depends on where you live , i would check with your BON. i would think you would have to go be certified.

In TN you can work as a "nurse tech" after one semester of nursing school (where you learn how to take VS, do bed baths and other fundamentals). I would talk with HR at your local hospital(s) and get their opinion. Actually, you may be better working as a unit secretary--no certification required--less hard on the body, and you will learn a lot that will help in school about meds and labs and things. I did both before becoming an RN and the secretary position helped more than anything!

I work in a Hospital as a Tech with No Certification. LTC Facilities will want a certification.
You could also try being a Home Health Aide(Baby Sitter) lot of hours, & very little pay $7.50 to $9.00/hr. Some Agency require you to transport Clients with your personnel Vehicle. Here is the catch 22 you have to have Commericial Automotive Insurance to transport them. If you wreck your car on the job. Personnel Car Insurance will not pay for it.

If your LPN license is inactive, and you don't have a CNA certification- then I'd say you aren't eligible- but that might vary state to state.
