I graduated in May from nursing school. I took loans out to go through because everyone kept telling me it'll pay itself out once i graduate. SO I have my BSN, my state license, and surprise! no job. neither does about 30 of my classmates, i'm looking in ohter states (i'm in NJ) i'm looking everywhere, even in PR (where my family lives) and there is nothing. So now i have loan payments that start in december, and no job. ANd i've applied to non-nursing jobs to. there is nothing. Can anyone help?
The best advice that hospitals are giving is to work as a CNA first and then your foot will be in the door. Hopefully then someone can rec ur work abilities and want to hire. I know it sounds bizzare but Duke, baptist, UNC, and john hospitals managers recommend this first.
The thing I don't understand about this though is that, I thought if you held a license that authorized a higher level of practice, then you can't work in such positions. So while this might be an excellent thing to do BEFORE you graduate, it wouldn't work for our OP, who now has her BSN. On the other hand...
One of my classmates worked as a nurse tech for YEARS at a large city hospital and had always assumed she would just move into an RN position once she got her BSN. Instead...once she got it and applied...they fired her immediately for the aforementioned reason...because they didn't have any RN openings. She has been struggling to find work since then.
I have no family. Well none really, I'm the youngest child and the last one at home. No boyfriend, no children, just me and my cats lol. I am more than willing to relocate. I live in one of the worse cities in the U.S. voted number 1 most dangerous and poorest plenty of times so anywhere i move will be an upgrade. Its just the cost of moving that worries me. But i have applied in other states and so far i've been getting no's because i dont have a license in that state. Also, nursing homes and rehab centers won't hire me because I have a bachelor's. They tell me i'm OVER qualified. even tho i worked as a CNA for 2yrs. That company wont hire me because i have no supervising experience. As of right now i'm applying to work at Macy's with my aunt.. who is also a CNA... I would've thought I had better luck in getting a job since i'm bilingual. But I was wrong.
Didn't they close quite a few locations? In these tough times, fewer people have the disposable income for pricey coffee drinks.
They closed locations that were redundant or weren't overly profitable in an attempt to refocus the corporate effort. Starbucks actually pays really well for the type of work it is (think over minimum wage) and offers benefits for anyone working over 20 hours a week. They also have stock options and adoption assistance. I worked there for quite a while and LOVED it. Occasionally I think about going back as a second job that doesn't involve saving lives.
I have been working with this amazing woman who has gotten me interviews with several hospitals and so long as you're fexible I am quite sure she can help pretty much anyone. I have been out of nursing for a while and no one would even look at me but after working with her for just 1 week she scored me at least 4 interviews if anyone wants her name and number I would be happy to pass it on, just let me know.
