I am 61 and have been an RN for 37 years, ER for 24 of them. The work gets harder, the pressures to be perfect are impossible, work place violence has been increasing, and disrespect is rampant. We are abused by everyone and expected to smile about it. Stress has caused me health problems and strain in my relationships. The final straw was after coming to work sick, my triage assignment was given to 2 other younger and I was given a zone. 12 exhausting hours of nightshift later I made up my mind. No more for me! I am outta here before I am too sick and depressed to enjoy life.
Good for You! I retired almost five years ago after over 40 years in healthcare as a nurse's aide, LPN and RN and have not looked back. Enjoy!
Nursing can be brutal at times. It is the focus of money that makes me nuts.I realize it is a business and I am glad someone keeps track of the business end but when they can afford it and refuse to out of greed and patients suffer it infuriates me.So enjoy your free time...you have earned it dear and caring nurse!
