I hate Anatomy/Physiology class!

I feel that way right now. I am a freshmen at university in CT and I am going crazy. Stupid me decided to take A&P my FIRST semester. What was I thinking? And to top it off, my professor doesn't give two shits about your grade or his teaching. He puts powerpoint notes and stuff up on the projector in a lecture hall filled with 250-300 students and says, "It's in the book folks. It's in the book." I mean, if he keeps saying that everything is in the book, then WHY DO WE EVEN HAVE TO GO TO LECTURE?!?!?

SORRY i got a little carried away hhah.

Thanks for your reply. I know what you mean. My instructor WILL NOT round up on grades, either, and I have an 89.3 for my grade so far. Even being that close to an A, he won't round up. He's this geriatric hippy type and all ego. I can't wait for this class to be over, and at this point, I don't even really care what grade I get!! Hang in there...

But if can not handle A&P the nursing classes are going to be very difficult for you to pass. I was a straight A student through all of the sciences including Micro Biology and I am now a B+ - A- student in Nursing and I still think I am ahead of the curve regarding other students.

You will use A&P in every aspect of nursing school and then as a nurse. If you do not like it or can not undersatnd it, perhaps the human body is not for you. A&P needs to make sense for nursing etiology's to make sense.

Sorry, but thems the facts...

Dave, you said just what I was thinking. I actually really enjoyed A&P, especially physiology.

Forget about the grade, just try to learn the material. If the instructor isn't that great, study on your own.

my A&P classes were my favorite ones! if you go into rad tech, you will get more anatomy than you could ever want. I think that nursing deals more w/ physiology (someone correct me if I am wrong) is it your professor that it making the class unbearable? or do you just not like the content? if you don't like the content, you might want to think twice about going into nursing or rad tech.

I loved my A&P classes too. I know they're hard, lots of memorizing, lots to know. But you really do use that stuff a lot in nursing school. It's the foundation for everything.

I am surprised you say mostly Physiology. I think the Anatomy is also very important.

Examples in Semester one of Nursing are giving injections.

Location of Deltoid injection site. Find the lower edge of the Acromion Process and the Anterior Axillary fold, draw an inverted triangle and inject in the center approximately 1-2 inches below the Acromion Process.

Location of the Ventrogluteal injection site. Heal of the hand on the Greater Trochanter, thumb points toward the groin, fingers toward the head, form a V by pointing the index finger toward the Anteriosuperior Iliac Crest....

I think you get the idea...lots of anatomy

I could also continue with the Physiology as to why you give some injections IM, or Z track for that matter, others SQ and yet others ID.

It all has to make sense from A&P in order for any of this stuff to "CLICK" in nursing.

I have discovered that the instructor makes all the difference when it comes to A & P, as well as most other classes. My A & P 1 instructor was wonderful. He was animated and made the material very interesting. Most of us loved taking his class. I ended up with a B, which was all my fault. I could have gotten an A if I had taken the take home exam a little more seriously. Although, I can honestly say that I learned alot from his class.

Fast forward to A&P 2. My instructor, while very nice, is very dry. She teaches over our heads and doesn't answer questions very well. So, we are basically teaching ourselves most of the material. I got an 81 on my first exam and was never so happy to see a B in my life. I have to put alot of time into this class and believe me, it is torture but I am know I will be revisiting these concepts as I get into my Nursing courses.

A/P is basic foundation...you have to know the normal to recognize the abnormal.....read and do all you can do...some people get into teaching when they are not really meant to be in that field...and if they know something they forget that they were not born knowing that info...but you are not in school to get grades or please teacher...learn everything that you can you will be a better nurse or rad for it and remember every nurse you ever saw was onece in your position you to will survive

I agree. The instructor makes a big difference. The first time I took A&P 1 I got a B+. I felt the class was fun and I learned a lot. I have to take it again b/c it has been over 8 years. This is torture. I am taking the course at a community college. The teacher teaches all over the place. You never know what to expect on the test. I am not doing well in this class at all. His extra credit is donating blood. I inquired about ways to get extra points but all he says is donate blood. I am pregnant and a little anemic I can't give blood.

In my LPN program everyone is getting A's and talking about how easy it is. They don't have a lab, all the questions come out of the book. I inquired about trying to get in, but its too late. I took the course at the community college b/c I wanted to transfer it to the RN program. If I don't pass this class I can't move on to Gerentology in the January class. It will set me back a lot. We still have a couple more test before the end of the semester so I am going to bust my but to pass this class.
