I give up on waiting and I need a new plan

Nurses General Nursing

Hi, I have given up for right now on nursing school and radiology school, so I need an idea for something that I can make a living doing? I've thought about medical coding and billing. Does anyone know anything about this profession? Do they make good or decent money? Is it easier to get a job with a degree in this or will a certificate be fine? I would like to have a job that I can do at home? Can you get business easily working from home? I just need to figure something out that I might enjoy and quit stressing about things. Does anyone have any ideas on other things that looks good for the future, but doesn't take forever to complete in school? Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

the reason that i have decided to do something else is because i have all of the pre-requisites completed for nursing and radiology, but the schools are really competitive in georgia and i cannot get in at this time. i do not know if i will ever get in, so i need to come up with something else to support myself. i am single, so i can go to school without any problems, but i just don't know what to get into that isn't competive, but has a good future.

i am sure there are some nursing programs that are less competitive. have you ever tried that option. can you go to another state??? you have to try all the options. don't wait till is a seat for you!!! it does not work it that way.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I have been going to college since 18 and I'm just anxious to do something that I like. I believe, after having my mind set on nursing for years, that I would rather be a rad tech. I am a pharmacy tech right now, in which I got my training from the army and spent 4 years of active duty, but I don't like it. I am going to continue to try and get into rad tech school next year, but I'm afraid that I'm just going to be rejected again and have my life put on hold. I can relocate since I have the GI Bill, it's just overwhelming sometimes to try and try and never get anywhere and there is just sooo much competition and I am not the brightest star out there.:o Anyway, I'm just venting a little bit now I think. If anyone knows of any school that is not so hard to get into then please let me know. I need a jump start. ;) Thanks

I don't know which one is easier. But in general, nursing program in a town which has less population..I think you will have a better chance to get in. City like L.A. or N.Y.C. is harder. Good luck. Anyhow, if I found out there is a program that is easy to get into, I will go for it...even it is in Alaska.

i have been searching for a long time to find a program that is easy to get into. the thing is is that every school has different requirements and i've emailed a lot of schools to see what their lowest gpa of the last class was and they are also not very cooperative. it can drive a person crazy googling tons of schools. i've done it. :) there is a rad tech school in s.c. that accepted someone with a gpa of only 2.9 last year, so i am going to apply to that college and see what happens. i need to work on something until then though just in case. i may try network specialist as a major for a backup plan.

i'm in a 14 mos. lpn program with plans to do my rn bridge (completly online) asap after passing boards. here in fl the state covers everything if you are in an approved lpn program. soup to nuts - gas cards to tuition to uniforms!! the evening classes all have waitlists, the day classes are wide open. once i figured out nursing is my calling, i couldn't imagine waiting or doing anything else. don't give up!

what school are you going to and where is it in florida? thanks

Well just to put some pennies in your pocket, do what my wife and I did and join the Air Guard, 15k bonuses right now plus school money, so you can tool around a bit :)

Went from Cop -> Pest Control, ain't it great? :)

i have been there...done it....

i had applied for many programs...and getting a lot of rejections just like many other students at that time. i finally decided to go for lpn, and i passed the entrance exam, passed the interview. i became an lpn in 1999, and moved up one more time when i graduated from the rn program at the end of 2003 and i became an rn in 2004.

sometimes you have to think outside the box, if one way is not going, you must try the other way. you have to try everything.... nursing, for now, gives me the job security. i don't know about the rad tech thing.

asking the lowest gpa, i am not so sure if there is anyone will cooperative with you...this is really their secrecy. no one wants to tell people we will take someone that is as low as "rock bottom"... i hope my advice will help.

good luck!!!

Hi, just wondering if you work at a hospital? Alot of the time if you can get into a hospital position, the local college will give you first priority in their program. If you work at a hospital that does not do that, you might want to check others.

yes, i work as a pharmacy tech at a hospital. i have not heard of anything like that in georgia. everything is by gpa or a waiting list.

I've never heard of anything like this either. It certainly doesn't work this way where I live. Entrance to nursing programs here is entirely merit-based (as it should be) - no favoritism for anyone.

i'm in the same boat you are! i'm trying to get into school for a rad tech or therapist. here in NC most school have a min. GPA of 2.5, one of the hospitals here require 3.0 for theirs, and another college you have to get a high score on the HOBET. i'm getting ready to apply to 3 or 4 different NC colleges with the hopes of getting into one...most only allow about 12 students a year.

i know i'd be willing to relocate but out-of-state tuition would kill me somewhere else! sounds like you wouldn't have that problem though (i don't know the details of the gi bill though)

could you retake a couple pre-reqs to become more competitive?

how about a CNA program?

Does your hospital have a nursing program? Mine does, and employees are given priority and we get free tuition. Course, we have to give them another year, but what the heck... at least I know I'll have a job for another year after I graduate.
